Company information

The Mowbray is a multi-award winning B&B and we would love for you to visit us so that we can show you why our awards tally keeps growing! We enjoy creating and offering hospitality and we love the great double bonus -- the fact that in this work we share in your enjoyment of the great break you enjoy having with us.

Property information

The building was built by the Duke of Devonshire as a private dwelling. During the WW2 the RAF used it to for Canadian Airmen & following the war it became a private hotel / guest house. Where the name Mowbray comes from is unclear. Some say it is because one of the architects involved in the building of the terraced row was a Mr A W M Mowbray. Others point to the DeMowbray family who landed a little further along the coast during the Norman conquest. Whatever the origins the Mowbray has been welcoming guests for over 90 years. Famous tennis stars have stayed in the past such as Steffi Graff & Gabriella Sabatini because it is so close to the Devonshire Park Tennis Courts. With the theatres also so close the Mowbray has hosted many stars of stage & screen. With 13 rooms and a small team, the Mowbray can offer a friendly and helpful service that you just won’t find in a big hotel which is why the team has won Les Routiers’ Guest House of the Year twice (2014 and 2016) and been nominated at the AA’s B&B awards

Neighbourhood information

Eastbourne has plenty to offer the nature enthusiast ranging from the impressive cliffs and lighthouse at Beachy Head to the peaceful woodland walks of the South Downs National Park. Not forgetting one of the most beautiful seafronts in England and a great variety of cultural activities in our lovely town of Eastbourne.
