The Old Town Hall was built in 1862 primarily as a Drill Hall for training men of the Wensleydale Volunteers from Redmire, Castle Bolton and West Witton. It also was used for dances, concerts, wedding receptions and social gatherings. In 1966 the building was converted into a single storey house with a shop and post office. In 2005 the conversion to a two-storey house was completed and The Old Town Hall Bed and Breakfast was opened. Since then the building has undergone extensive upgrades to provide luxurious accommodation. We offer a lounge/breakfast room on the ground floor where guests can enjoy complimentary tea and cake of arrival. On the first floor we have three large bedrooms each with a settee so you can relax in private if you wish. All bathrooms have a bath to relax in. The Suite has a double spa bath and a separate walk-in shower. The Deluxe room has an ensuite bathroom with a powerful shower of the bath. The Superior Double/Twin has a private bathroom just across the corridor and has a powerful shower over the bath. This room has a choice of bed arrangements – a super-king bed or two full size single beds, please let us know your preference when booking.
We have been welcoming guests to The Old Town Hall since July 2015 and very much enjoy meeting people from all over the world, hearing about their travels and what they would like to see and do in the Yorkshire Dales. We enjoy many of the local walks direct from our front door or venturing a bit further afield making use of the glorious local countryside. Our highlight has been winning the “Best Guest Accommodation for England Award in 2018/19” for which we feel honoured to win. We aim to make everybody’s stay a relaxing and peaceful one.
The Old Town Hall B&B is situated in Redmire a village near Leyburn. The Wensleydale Railway (a heritage line) runs between Redmire and Leeming Bar with trains running frequently throughout the year. Bolton Castle is a mile away and you can walk to it via the many footpaths in the area or drive to it. Other local castles include Richmond Castle and Middleham Castle. There are many spectacular local waterfalls Redmire Force, Aysgarth Falls, Hardrow Force to name a few. Local towns include Leyburn, Richmond and Hawes, with its very popular visitor attraction - Wensleydale Creamery – manufacturers of the famous Wallace and Gromit Wensleydale cheese. We can provide suggestions on places to visit with driving routes in Wensleydale and Swaledale to make the most of your stay. We have plenty of information and maps to help you. There is a pub in our village serving good food and local beers and plenty of other very good restaurants nearby. There is no shop in the village.
