Neighbourhood information

Brixham is situated at the southern end of Tor Bay in the beautiful English Rivera. Brixham Harbour has one of the largest UK fishing fleets with a thriving fish market to support it. Brixham was known as 'Mother of Deep-Sea Fisheries', its boats helped to establish the fishing industries of Hull, Grimsby and Lowestoft. In the 1890s, there were about 300 trawling vessels in Brixham, most of them independently owned. The trawlers can still be seen coming in and out of the harbour, followed by flocks of seagulls and sometimes you get a glimpse of seals and dolphins too. Personifying a classic English fishing port, with its many colourful houses cascading down to the harbour, offers a view that’s full of charm and character. Brixham possesses a wealth of history and appeals to all ages. There are a variety of shops, local art galleries, culture and maritime heritage to explore. Regular coastal boat tours and fishing excursions are the perfect way to experience the English Riviera. Brixham Breakwater is a massive sea wall structure protecting Brixham Harbour, stretching for half a mile offshore offering panoramic views. From the far end you gain a very different perspective of the harbour and town. Along the coastline there are 20 beaches to explore. Varying from wide sandy beaches to hidden coves, such as Fishcombe Cove and the beautiful, secluded St Marys Bay in Brixham. Berry Head National Nature Reserve is a prominent feature marking the southern end of Tor Bay. Providing breath-taking views across the bay to the East Devon Coast, the Dart Estuary and South Hams. Devon’s beautiful English Riviera is the perfect spot for a memorable walking holiday, with Brixham being one of the prettiest coastlines. The whole area is a UNESCO-accredited Global Geopark. Around the harbour and marina there are a wide variety of eateries and restaurants where you can sample local fresh produce. Brixham offers fine dining restaurants, Bistros, Pub food and cafe bars that cater for all.
