Standing on the banks of the Glaven Valley and listed in Hidden Places of East Anglia as a truly charming place in the most delightful of settings, is Letheringsett. Famous for its working mill, it is one of the last remaining fully-working watermills in Norfolk open to the public. The village boasts an excellent pub, The King’s Head, winner of The National Pub & Bar Award 2021 Norfolk County, which serves good food and hosts barbecues during the summer months.
On the edge of the village, the hugely popular Back To The Garden is a deli/café/farm shop where you can enjoy a hearty breakfast or lunch before heading out for a day of adventures. The neighbouring 18th century Georgian town of Holt is a reachable by foot, and offers excellent amenities, as well as an great selection of high street and independent shops. Bakers and Larners department store and Byfords are two landmark establishments in the town. For Michelin starred dining, book into Meadowsweet, and be sure not to miss Two Magpies Bakery and Owl Tea Rooms. There are many art galleries, and antique and bookshops to discover. To make sure you see all the key landmarks in the town, take the Holt Owl Trail, by following the owl pavement plaques. A short walk away is Holt Country Park, a 100 acre woodland with oak, pine and silver birch trees, picnic areas, nature trails and a playground. Just outside the centre of Holt is the North Norfolk Railway station where you can catch the Poppy Line steam and diesel train services to Weybourne and Sheringham. Showcasing local makers and crafters, Holt Sunday market makes a great day out.
