The house is practically a museum, it was a miners, house that has been bought and saved by the owners. You can tell they really love it! Being very old you cannot expect it to have the same comforts of a modern building, but what it lacks in...

My cottage is old, quirky, quite unique and very original. If you like cottages with character you will love this, if you don't please don't book as you won't enjoy it.. Please read the description carefully. The cottage dates back to at least 1834 and is one of the few cottages to escape the regeneration scheme in Blaenau still retaining its lovely old sash windows and original Welsh slate roof. Internally it retains a lot of the original features including a rare Welsh oven - unfortunately not in use. It is also interesting as it's one of the few cottages in Blaenau actually built of slate - which is what the town is famous for. The cottage is a little bit of Blaenau Ffestiniogs history and is mentioned twice on the Cadw (Welsh Governments Historic Environment Service) website and is now Grade II Listed. It consists of a lounge/diner, kitchen, bathroom , double and single bedroom. The double bedroom has a step down into it but a nightlight is provided, if required. There are low doorways, steep stairs and sloping ceilings so may not be suitable for the very young, very old or very tall. The bathroom has no shower due to the low ceilings but has a hand held mixer shower for hair washing. No garden. Bed linen, tea towels, a kitchen hand towel and gas/electricity are included in the price. No bath towels
I've been hosting for over five years and am happy to help out with any enquiries. I provide a lot of information on the cottage and surrounding area to help you get the most out of your stay and am always ready to help out with any problems.
There are plenty of things to do in and around Blaenau Ffestiniog and Ty Hen makes a perfect base. Based in the town are the Ffestiniog Railway, Llechwedd Slate caverns and the Zip World Complex with Bounce Below and Zip World Titan and Caverns. It's only a short drive to Porthmeirion - the Italianate village made famous in the prisoner and about 40 minutes from Snowdon. The walking near to the town is fabulous.
