We really enjoyed our stay. It’s a cosy and comfortable barn conversion with lots of charm and amazing views. My son loved meeting all the animals from the butterflies all over the garden to the friendly ponies. A very relaxing and fun family stay.

The place is absolutely beautiful, and the owners were so lovely. Alice was around if we needed her, but never encroached, and her and George allowed our children to feed the baby lambs. Such a delightful barn, spotlessly clean in a stunning...

The barn was very tastefully furnished and it was good to see that many of the authentic features remained.

Widewath Swaledale tup!!
Stay in one of our beautifully restored Barns at the heart of our farm. Widewath Farm is a traditional upland hill. The Barns are Grade II Iisted and have been sympathetically restored to retain original features. WIDEWATH BARN is a small sole occupancy self catering unit sleeping 2 - 4 people. The bedroom has bunk beds and a double bed. The restored stable stall provides a privacy screen in the bedroom. Relax around the large pine farmhouse table in the living/dining room. Retire into a secluded space, the 'snug,' to pour over maps and plan routes for the following day's activity. Venture up stone steps to CRUISE. Our newly converted one bedroom cottage with lime plastered wiggly walls, handcrafted oak doors and stairs, hand forged latches and handles. Panoramic views from the door extend across the orchard to the fells. Both properties have fully equipped kitchens and shower rooms. A wood pellet boiler provides hot water and heating, keeping the properties toasty warm. There is covered space outdoors to store dirty boots/wet jackets, bikes , undertake a spot of bike maintenance or a game of table tennis!
There's evidence of occupation here from the 1500s! The place is steeped in history with an old packhorse lane leading down to pack horse bridges, past a ruined farm steading and out onto the fell towards Widewath Mill. We farm a hefted flock of native hardy Swaledales on the surrounding heather clad fells of Askham & Helton and Bampton commons. There's also ponies, two busy terriers, farm collies and free range hens producing lovely eggs!! We love being outdoors and enjoying this amazing Lake District landscape.
Widewath Farm is set in a secluded location with panoramic views across the Lowther Valley and beyond. It is only 15 minutes from the M6 and the market town of Penrith. The picturesque villages of Askham and Bampton are within 2 miles with a selection of pubs, village shops and even a heated outdoor swimming pool! The Farm is situated in the quieter eastern area of Lake District. Ideal location to use boots (trainers) or bike (mountain or road) and take off from the doorstep into high fells or drop down into the quiet network of roads, footpaths and bridleways in the Eden Valley. Bag a Wainwright!! Visit outstanding local attractions like Lowther Castle and Gardens or while away a warm afternoon in the nearby villages of Askham and Bampton. Indulge in afternoon tea and cakes, woodfired pizzas or both! Visit RSPB's Haweswater estate, walk over to Pooley Bridge at Lake Ullswater and take the steamer across to Glenridding or the National Trust Aira Force waterfalls, For families, take a 'Tale trail'. Tale Trails are local 1-2 hour family walks based around a fun story and a hand drawn map for kids. Look out for the Marsh Kelpie of Askham Fell.
