It was a heavenly place to stay, quiet and peaceful. To be woken by the dawn chorus and the sound of farm yard animals was wonderful. The breakfast was excellent. If you would like to get away from the 21st century I highly recommend it.

Set in beautiful countryside above the Cothi River, our home is full of character and period features. While there has been a house on the site since at least the 11th Century, the extant former farmhouse dates in part back to the 1500s. It was largely rebuilt in 1718 and has a Victorian ground floor frontage. If you love old-world quirky charm and oak beams aplenty this is the place for you but if you like things slick and modern you will be sadly disappointed. Two large bed and breakfast rooms are available for you to enjoy this rural retreat: one with a king-size bed; one with two single beds. As an historic listed building, the layout and function of rooms cannot be altered so there are no en-suites, however guests always have the entire first floor to themselves with exclusive use of both a full bathroom and a separate shower room; if you book just one room, we make the other unavailable so you do not share with strangers. Each room has a kettle with hot drinks supplies. We do not provide cooking facilities but you may store prepared food in our kitchen fridge and use our tableware to consume this either in the kitchen or at the outside patio table. There are no TVs in the rooms but you are welcome to watch the one in our family living room. The five-acre grounds are at your disposal for outdoor relaxation. PLEASE NOTE: • It is a very rural location next to a farm. • All local roads are single-track lanes. • There are no pubs or shops within walking distance. • There is no mobile phone reception indoors but we have very good satellite-based WiFi. • We have two pet dogs and a cat so the property will not be suitable if you suffer from allergies. We do not normally allow children but a baby is fine and a travel cot is available. Exceptions may be possible on request. Guests are kindly asked to bear in mind that we are neither a hotel nor a professional bed and breakfast operation: we offer rooms in a family home.
With my husband, I run a business providing services and tuition in hand bookbinding and conservation-restoration of books and other library and archives material. This is located in outbuildings of the property. We feel privileged to live in such lovely surroundings and enjoy sharing our home with holidaying guests and residential students.
A peaceful country setting with only cows for neighbours, this is a place to truly get away from it all. We are not in a village and the closest other homes are half a mile away. Although there are working dairy farm buildings next door, no-one lives there. The house is tucked into a sheltered hollow but our adjoining field offers a wide view over the Cothi River valley and you can see across to Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) from the lane above. As we are close to a dark skies area, there are star-gazing opportunities on clear nights. The property is 20 minutes drive to either Carmarthen or Llandeilo and 15 minutes to Brechfa. It is just a short walk downhill to the riverside and you can hike or cycle from the doorstep. Historic, cultural and natural attractions galore are within easy reach. Just a few nearby examples are the National Botanic Garden of Wales, Aberglasney Gardens, the Red Kite Feeding Station, Brechfa Forest, Bannau Brycheiniog, Dinefwr Castle and Newton House, Carreg Cennen Castle, Llansteffan beach and castle, Dylan Thomas’s house at Laugharne (and another castle), Carmarthenshire County Museum, the National Wool Museum, Gwili Steam Railway, Dolaucothi Gold Mines. Tenby, Pembroke, Cardigan and Swansea are all about a one hour drive away; St Davids and Aberystwyth approximately ninety minutes. You can easily take a day trip to Skomer Island. Public transport is not available but taxis can be ordered from Carmarthen.
