Having lived in many parts of Greece for a long time due to our former occupations, we decided to settle down with our family in Chania, on the island of Crete—more specifically, in Kolimbari. We wholeheartedly believe that Chania is among the most beautiful regions in the world. Can you fault us? We love travelling, discovering new places, and making friends.

Our apartment is tucked away in a peaceful corner of the charming fishing town of Kolymbari—just a few steps from the beach. Everything you might need is close by: a supermarket, bakery, pharmacy, ATM, and even handy local services like a gym, car rental, hair salon, or physiotherapist. There’s a bus stop just 20 meters from the door with regular routes to Chania and the nearby villages. Walk no more than 100 meters and you’re at the waterfront, where Kolymbari’s cozy cafés and seaside tavernas are waiting. Be sure to try the fish taverns—famous around Chania for serving the freshest catch, straight from the boats. If you’re an early riser, take a stroll to the little fishing port and watch the fishermen unload their nets. It’s a local ritual. Not far from the house, you’ll find the beautiful Monastery of Gonia (Mother of God Odigitria), with stunning views and a deep sense of history. A bit further down, you will find the Orthodox Academy of Crete, a place that holds cultural and spiritual importance for the whole region. If you feel like exploring, head to nearby villages like Spilia, Marathokefala, and Vouves. Or venture a bit farther to discover the beaches of Ravdoucha, the famous Falasarna, and the postcard-perfect Balos lagoon. Elafonisi and Kedrodasos are down to the southwest, and the southern coast is full of gems like Paleochora and Sougia. For a livelier scene, drive east to Platanias, where you’ll find shops, bars, water sports, and nightlife. And when you’re ready to dive into the city, Chania’s Old Town and its beautiful Venetian harbor are just 30 minutes away.
