The Neighborhood where the residence is located is very quiet!!! All locals spend most of their times by the beach side ''Triopetra'' because of their agricultural activity. They will be very happy to give you a lift, free of charge of course. Don't get surprised if they offer you food, fruits and raki on the way. Akoumia village supports all the basic needs,mini market,grosery and meat shop,a bakery and lots of local"kafenia" and a few taverns. Akoumia is a beautiful traditional paved village on the side of Asiderotas (about 420m altitude) with small cobblestones leading to the central square, fountains, Byzantine chapels and a cool climate in the summer. Easy access to the entire Southern coastline from Matala to Plakia and Fragokastello but also to the North (35 kilometers from Rethymno). From Melina Apartment within a short distance by car or motorbike are beaches and villages that you can visit. - Triopetra Beach(10-12 minutes 12km) -Agios Pavlos Beach ( 30 minutes 19,5km) - Spili (8-10 minutes 9km) (health center, supermarket, various shops etc) - Agia Galini (20-22 minutes 18km) - Rethymnon (30-35 minutes 36km) Distance from airports , ports - Chania Airport (Ioannis Daskalogiannis) (1 hour 30 minutes 97km) - Heraklion Airport (Nikos Kazantzakis) (1 hour 40 minutes 100km)
We are a family of local Cretans and we run a restaurant called FILENIA, which is located 10 minutes by car from our renting place. Our restaurant offers local Cretan cuisine, with ingredients that come from the mountain and from our own vegetable-garden, everything is 100% organic. We are open the entire day and we are waiting for you. Also our tavern is where you can pick up the keys to the renting place as well.
Melina Apartment is located in the village of Akoumia just few steps from the village square named "Platanos" where you will find traditional cafes, you can have breakfast, drink your coffee or enjoy local tsikoudia & meze or shacks . Akoumia village supports all the basic needs,mini market,grosery and meat shop,a bakery and lots of local"kafenia" and a few taverns. There is also a mini market and a small bakery a short distance.
