Sidirounta is a traditional village in northwestern Chios, built amphitheatrically with stunning views of the Aegean Sea. The village’s roots date back to the late 14th century, when the first settlers built their homes around the medieval tower that protected the area from pirate raids. An important part of its history are the “vigles” – stone watchtowers that formed a network of early warning for the inhabitants of Chios. These towers communicated with fire and smoke signals, ensuring the safety of the surrounding villages. Today, Sidirounta combines traditional architecture with the tranquility of an authentic settlement, while visitors can enjoy the unique natural beauty, breathtaking sunsets, and nearby beaches.
