The host was very friendly and helped when I had issues with a pre-arranged tour (which wasn't even through the hotel). The included breakfast was excellent (buffet and menu-based) and was brought out promptly, which was important to me based on...

Across the road from skellig mikhail departure. Tidy, clean, good breakfast and lovely staff (and good comms on very late arrival - keys held at the bar for us). Helpful at reception. Rooms as in pictures but actually seemed a bit nicer.

The hotel was vintage but quite nice and clean. The bonus, of course, was the seafood restaurant--amazing! In fact the anticipation of the seafood restaurant was frankly the draw for my booking this hotel and we were absolutely not disappointed!...

Breakfast offered a wide variety of freshly prepared hot dishes plus a buffet of juices and fruits. Really nice way to start a busy day and super convenient to the dock for excursions.

The room was very large, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and dinner at the restaurant was very good. The location is right at the marina where we were taking a boat tour in the morning.

Company info

Even after 30 years in business, we still feel blessed to live in this special corner of South Kerry just off the Ring of Kerry, with spectacular scenery on our doorstep and a wealth of history, culture and local traditions around us, but our greatest pleasure is sharing all this with our guests. At The Moorings you can experience Irish traditions first-hand at one of our local festivals or music sessions in our award winning Bridge Bar, or if you are just looking for peace and seclusion, your stay at The Moorings can offer it all. Choose to eat in our award-winning Seafood Restaurant or in the cosy Bridge Bar - voted Munster's Best Gastro Pub in the Restaurant Association Awards - before retiring to one of our newly refurbished bedrooms for a relaxing night's sleep followed by a full Irish breakfast to set you up for a new day. As we like to say about the Moorings, it's the home of beautiful memories and we feel honoured and privileged to be in such a fortunate position where we can help create wonderful memories for our guests.

Neighborhood info

Portmagee is a unique little fishing village on the Wild Atlantic Way. It is famous for the filming of two Star Wars movies – The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens. We are a popular base for tours to The Skellig Michael and accessing the wonderful land marks around the Skellig Ring off the Ring of Kerry. Beautiful walks with breath taking cliff views.
