Our room was below ground, with a shared shower and toilet. The sharing of facilities worked well, and our bed was very comfortable. The history of the guesthouse was prominently shown in the dining room, and we had a pleasant breakfast (to order).

Lovely building that feels like a museum. Don't forget to check out the basement with its antique furniture and radio etc. Comfy beds, good shower, great floorboards and original decor. It wasn't built as a lodge, so noise does penetrate...

The house is a living museum and we loved the old charm classic interiors. Bed mattresses are great as are pillows - and we know our pillows! The rooms do not have separate bathrooms but common ones but this is quite acceptable since usually one...

I loved the setup, it was a very rustic viking style furnishing. Loved that in the basement the two rooms share a common space and a small toaster, kettle and a huge TV with a common shared bathroom and toilet.

Einarshúsið is pleasing to the eye with a rich history. A bit eerie, but enjoyably so. The shared bathrooms were clean and well kept, and there were a few of them, so there was never a wait. The staff was friendly. The restaurant serves good pizza...

An old guesthouse in a gorgeous little fjord in the Westfjords of Iceland. This was a perfect place for our family of 7 to spend a couple of days as a base while exploring all the beauty that the Westfjords has to offer. Rooms were fairly...

It was cosy and well situated. I liked the fact there was a handbasin in the room.

Nice proximity to the harbor and other hikes or scenic drives. The dinner menu is good and they offer gluten-free pizza. There is a sink in the room, but it was rare that both restrooms were busy given the small number of rooms. No noise issues;...

Property info

Einarshúsið Guesthouse is in a restored wooden building over a hundred years old. Two of the pioneers of the town lived in this house most part of last century and ran their businesses from there. The house was built in 1902 by Pétur Oddsson who lived there until 1930. During that time he came to great grief as he lost most of his family to tuberculosis and other illnesses. He buried his wife, all his children and some other relatives a total of 14 family members over that period. Einar Guðfinnsson moved into the house several years later and lived there a long and prosperous life with his family during the next decades. When previous owners bought the house in 2004 it was in poor state. They started renovating and bringing the house to its earlier status as one of the most beautiful houses in Bolungarvík. The current owners bought the house in April 2016. Our aim is to provide the best service possible and authentic Icelandic hospitality. In the restaurant/lounge area there are displays about the history of the house its owners.

Neighborhood info

Amid the mountains of the wild West Fjords lies Bolungarvík, a small fishing village with about 1000 inhabitants. The village is a good base for trips around north of West Fjords. A 2-minute walk from the guesthouse you will find an indoor swimming pool with outdoor hot tubs and waterslide. This is one of the best swimming pools in West Fjords.
