About this property

This family-owned, eastern Iceland property is located on Route 95, about 17 km from the town of Egilsstadir. It offers cottage and guest room accommodation with views of Sandfell Mountain. Stora Sandfell's rooms have tea/coffee facilities, a private bathroom and access to a shared kitchen. The cottages have a kitchenette and BBQ, while the bathroom facilities are either private or shared. The surrounding forest provides a nice setting for horseback riding. Stora Sandfell staff can also help arrange hiking tours in the Hjálpleysa Valley. Free private parking is possible at the property for guests who arrive by car.

Our travel service is a family business that has been owned by the same family for over 20 years, Jóhanna Fjóla Kristjánsdóttir, Ágúst Waltersson and now our three children, Vera Kristborg, Valdís Theodóra and Ágúst Jóhann.

Property information

Stóra-Sandfell is a peaceful and friendly place 17 km. south of Egilsstaðir on highway no. 95 on the way between Egilsstaðir and Höfn. We offer our guests a nice camping place and accommodation in cottages or in separated rooms. We also offer horse tours in our beautiful area.

Neighbourhood information

Many nice walking paths are in the area, for example into Hjálpleysa which is one of the deepest valleys in Iceland. And the view from the top of the mountain Sandfell is quite magnificent. Riding tours in the forest or up to the mountains can also be a enjoyable experience for the whole family and our guest get special discount. Króklækur, a small stream, runs through the camp site. The stream is a child friendly stream that children spend hours around.
