Company information

Our history is steeped in Tuscan tradition, starting with the construction of our house in the 1950s, following the agrarian reforms of the Ente Maremma. However, our family's presence here dates back to the 19th century, with four generations having lived and worked on these lands. The name "Il Sorbo" comes from the abundant presence of rowan trees that once characterized the landscape. This detail adds a historical and evocative touch to the story of our Agriturismo. During the mezzadria era, farm workers came from the mountains to "uproot" these and other trees to make space for arable land. Today, the property covers approximately 70 hectares, featuring a combination of arable land, olive groves, and Mediterranean scrub, a balance that supports biodiversity and sustainability. The cultivation of wheat and olives from the main local varieties ensures quality, as evidenced by the production of IGP Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVO). In recent years, the expansion of the olive grove has been a significant step in strengthening our family’s agricultural identity and tradition. The decision to plant single-variety olive groves with ancient Tuscan varieties at risk of extinction is not only a way to preserve local biodiversity but also enhances the rich agricultural heritage of Tuscany.

Property information

We are located in a secluded and peaceful area in the high hills of Maremma. This is an ideal place for those seeking peace, nature, and authenticity. We are far from urban centers but centrally located between the sea and the mountains. The area is perfect for those who want to relax and explore the natural beauty of the Tuscan countryside. The small towns of Baccinello and Arcille can be reached in about 15 minutes by car and offer basic services. We offer additional services upon request and for a fee: Washing machine Sauna Heated tub Breakfast E-bike rental Tastings The apartments, carefully furnished in a rustic style, feature rooms with panoramic views of the surrounding hills. The indoor and outdoor spaces are characterized by handmade terracotta floors, exposed beams, and large windows. The stone courtyard corners add a touch of authenticity, making every stay a step back in time. The warm family welcome completes the experience, offering the opportunity to live a typical day in the countryside, enriched by tastings of genuine local products, to discover the flavors and traditions of Maremma. Remember that you will be staying in an Agriturismo, so it may happen that during your stay you will see our family engaged in daily activities. This is an aspect that makes the experience even more genuine and connected to rural life, allowing you to observe the agricultural cycle, away from the hustle and bustle of conventional tourist facilities.

Neighbourhood information

In the surrounding area, you can explore the beauty of the Melacce stream and the unusual rock formations of cliffs and ridges that stretch along its course, along with panoramic viewpoints and trails through the Mediterranean scrub. Each plot of land here has a name and a story! Additionally, the white roads leading to Monte Labro are ideal for hiking and perfect for both walkers and mountain bike enthusiasts. With a bit of patience, you will be able to spot many birds, thanks to the rich biodiversity of the area. It is also not uncommon to encounter various wild animals during walks. Roe deer, hares, wild boars, porcupines, turtles, and pheasants are among the species that may be spotted in their natural habitat. After a day of activities, you can relax in our relaxation area, enjoying a bath in the Hot Tubs or a rejuvenating sauna in the Wooden Barrel, fully regenerating and enjoying the peace this corner of nature has to offer. Within an hour's drive, you can reach natural hot springs (Saturnia, Bagni San Filippo, Petriolo, Bagno Vignoni), seaside locations (Argentario coast, Cala Violina, Torre Mozza…), nature parks (Maremma Park, Orbetello Lagoon), the gentle hills of the Val D'Orcia, Monte Labro (1190 m above sea level), Monte Amiata (1700 m above sea level), lakes (Lago dell’Accesa and Lago di Burano), medieval towns (Santa Fiora, Pienza, Castiglione della Pescaia, Massa Marittima), Etruscan paths and the tuff cities (Pitigliano, Sorano, Sovana), wine hills and villages (Montalcino, Scansano, Montecucco, Cinigiano). In a day’s trip, you can visit the islands of Giglio and Giannutri by ferry from Porto Santo Stefano or the cities of Siena, Livorno, Florence, Orvieto, and Lake Bolsena.
