In the upper Vinschgau, where the wind sweeps across the expanses of the Malser Haide and the road rises towards the Reschensee lake, stretches the sunny municipality of Mals with its several hamlets. The pretty village centers of Mals, the castles and the famous Marienberg monastery above Burgeis stand for the cultural wealth of one of the most traditional settlement areas along the Via Claudia Augusta. In winter, the nearby skiing area at Watles and the splendid cross-country skiing trails near Schlinig offer multiple forms of sporting recreation. In addition, the skiing areas of the Ortler Ski Arena can be reached in about 20 minutes. For paragliders there are ideal conditions at Watles. Bikers will appreciate the possibility of combined bike-train excursions on the slightly inclined route to Merano - one of the most beautiful South Tyrolean bike routes - thanks to the connection to the railroad (bike rental). The sports zone in Mals has, for example, an indoor swimming pool, adventure pool, bowling alleys and tennis courts. The extensive Oberwaalweg (Sonnensteig) is one of the most charming hiking trails in the area. Recreation is also offered by the beautiful old nature park above the village. A cozy apartment with bedroom, bathroom, eat-in kitchen and balcony is waiting for you.

The medieval town walls of Glorenza/Glurns, the smallest place in South Tyrol to bear the title of town, seven towers at Malles/Mals, the Coira Castle guarding the valley at Sluderno/Schluderns, and the Monte Maria monastery gleaming white above Burgusio/Burgeis are just a few of the cultural gems which beckon here. Meadows, mountain farms and pretty hospitable villages testify to the area’s stubborn pride. The area offers plenty for nature lovers who prefer relaxing pursuits, for example shady mountainside trails beside old irrigation channels with spectacular views across to the glacier-clad summits in the Ortles massif. In winter the valleys of Mazia/Matsch, Slingia/Schlinig, Planol/Planeil and Tubre/Taufers in the Monastero/Müster Valley attract snowshoeing, Alpine ski touring and winter hiking enthusiasts. The Venosta Valley is the driest and sunniest valley in the entire Alpine region. Most popular among families is the sun-drenched Watles ski area.
