Casa Serendipity, built more than 200 years ago, is to be found in the historical centre of Vercana. The building has been converted from agricultural storerooms and has been carefully restored in order to maintain the original local style and materials. The ground floor apartment has been furnished with taste and elegance in order to provide all modern comforts and is composed of a living room/kitchen and a bedroom with en-suite bathroom, which has a shower. In the courtyard is the entrance to the cellar, where bicycles can be stored. Near the house there is ample public car parking. The apartment is equipped for two people but, on request, a young baby which sleeps in a travel cot can also be accommodated.
Antonella is Italian and Derek, who moved to Italy in 1994, is English. We bought Serendipity in 2008 and spent a couple of years restoring it from agricultural use to residential use. We then ran it as a very popular Bed and Breakfast until 2014 work commitments led to us moving to the southern end of Lake Como. Since then the house has been used for holiday lets.
Vercana is a small village of medieval origins, 200 metres above Lake Como, near Domaso. Facing South, Vercana provides beautiful views of the lake and is ideal for those seeking a quiet spot near to the lake from which the area can be explored, either by car or on foot or by bicycle. There are numerous footpaths around the village. The lake can be reached in 5-10 minutes by car or 20-30 minutes on foot. Domaso is a well-known sailing and windsurfing centre with an extensive beach. There is a public boat service linking Domaso with the more famous parts of the lake, such as Bellaggio and Como. Vercana has a number of small food shops, 2 bars, a pizzeria and an agriturismo (home-cooked locally produced food). More extensive facilities are available in Domaso: supermarkets, local shops, as well as numerous bars and restaurants. Vercana is also well-located for visiting the surrounding mountain area: Valtellina, Val Chiavenna and the Saint Moritz area of Switzerland, all within one hour by car.
