My name is Tommasina. I am an architect from Campania origin who chose Puglia as a privileged place to plant and develop a Permaculture project called MATER. MATER, Bed and Food is an ecological and social redevelopment project of an existing rural area. Its activity focuses on forms of sustainable tourism and accommodation, with a view to environmental protection, in interaction with the local community, with travelers; respecting the social, cultural and environmental specificities of the Apulian territory.

Property information

MATER Bed and Food is a farmhouse from the 50s, recently renovated and recovered in a bioclimatic key; the farm is located in the agricultural area of ​​the Marine Reserve of Torre Guaceto, an uncontaminated place between sea and countryside. We are 4 minutes away by car from the Punta Penna Grossa beach which we can also reach with our bicycles in 20 minutes.

Neighbourhood information

The MATER project is located within the national nature area of ​​Torre Guaceto, an uncontaminated environment that extends along seven kilometers of the Brindisi coast, in the heart of Salento. The most important natural environments of the Reserve are: the coast, the Mediterranean scrub and the wetland. Along the entire coastline of the Reserve, the sandy shores alternate with short stretches of cliffs; behind the dune numerous species of evergreen shrubs grow in close contact with each other and gather to form the Mediterranean scrub communities. Among the animals that frequent the maquis environment mention is the badger, the luscengola and the green lizard. Behind the dune, where the aquifer emerges, the straw dominates unchallenged. The most frequent and showy animals are birds. The wetland of Torre Guaceto is Ramsar site, according to the international convention of the same name, and Special Protection Area, according to EEC Directive 79/409, a resting place for migratory birds that move from Africa to Northern Europe.
