Charming rooms at romantic Palazzo Castrucci: a grand Venetian bed, interiors from a bygone time with a quirky retro bathroom. Part of an ages old palazzo in the Centro Storico of gorgeous medieval Alvito. A private stay in a period residence steeped in history. This beautiful and photogenic retreat is located in the timeless unspoilt Valle di Comino, just halfway between Naples and Rome. Guests will stay in a vintage bedroom suite with king size venetian bed, and private bathroom. The coffee station is equipped with enough to start the day or to pick up on a sleepy afternoon. A third guest can be accommodated if required. The upper floor, with the main salon, library and garden is freely accessible during the day and evening for private and exclusive use. The balcony terrace is available by arrangement. Palazzo Castrucci is the historic seat of the Castrucci family, resident at this location from the 14th century. The house in current form dates from the 1600s with many subsequent alterations and additions. We invite you to be part of our story as we restore, upgrade and maintain this beautiful 800 year old building. Alvito has several excellent restaurants serving locally sourced food, lively bars, coffee and pastry shops. It is the perfect place to spend some relaxing time, walking and exploring and simply enjoying the views of the valley. It also of course is an ideal base for a deeper exploration of Italian life, culture and history in some of the local towns and areas and thanks to a strategic location, Rome and Naples are an easy car or train journey away.
We are John and Lee an Irish couple living in Italy and starting a new adventure in Alvito based in our historic Palazzo Castrucci. A big old house filled with romance and history and the perfect place to host travellers keen to find out more about life in Italy beyond the tourist hotspots. A slow and careful restoration is simply the continuation of the never ending evolution of this building which we find has the qualities of a passive house, cool in summer and warm in winter. We love travel and have toured around Europe and beyond for years and we have stayed in just about every possible type of lodging, hotel and guest quarters imaginable. This of course has inspired and informed us when it comes to setting up a hospitality business of our own. The room offered here represents the very beginning of that endevour and over the coming years we hope to build and expand a business that helps people find out what Italy really has to offer as well as simply having a vacation or holiday that ticks every box.
Palazzo Castrucci is right in the heart of the wonderful hill top village of Alvito, a quintessential Italian medieval town of ancient stone houses and palaces, winding lanes and beautiful views. Alvito itself is one of a few magical old villages to be found in the Eden like Valle di Comino. Exactly half way between Naples and Rome this special place is easy to access, perfectly located between the mountainous wilderness of Abruzzo National Park, the seaside towns south of Rome and is the perfect base to spend a day exploring the 'Eternal City' to the north and thrilling Napoli to the south. The town of Casino, site of much important action during World War 2 and home to the world famous Abbey of Monte Cassino is nearby and from here travellers can access the A1 motorway and the train station. Slow food, locally produced wine, olives, bread and cheese, trekking in the mountains, visiting two of the most famous cities in the world, photo opportunities around every corner and all in a place where time moves that little bit more slowly - a stay at Palazzo Castrucci allows you to sample much more of Italy than a city break ever could. The vacation you have been dreaming of for years.
