Tenuta Montelaura
There isn't no document attesting to the exact date of construction of the original building, but in living memory it is dated in the beginning of the 19th century. When we buyed this property, in the year 1993, we renovated and expanding the house maintaining the same type of construction, with the same materials, a local stone called "tufo". In the basement there are cellars and rooms processing of salami and cheeses, at the ground floor the kitchen and restaurant rooms and at the first and second floor the bedrooms. At the back of the building there are cestnuts trees and hazelnuts trees, at the feet of these, in autumn, you can take mushrooms. In front of the building there is a botanical park where every guest can have jogging and also admire the many species of plants present. When you arrive at Tenuta Montelaura from via Due Principati, the street so called because it joined the two principalities, that of Avellino with that of Salerno, you can find, behind the imposing wrought-iron gate, an avenue bordered by three secular pine trees and under the pines there is a double row of hydrangea border fully bloomed from late June to late July. That was the best time to visit us.
I love nature, countryside, good food and good wine. My family is a family of farmers and therefore i am so joint to the country. Since i was a boy i had a particulary bond with all was rural. My wife Flavia and i ever worked in agriculture, before, since 1999 we had a nursery of trees, and after, until now a farm holiday (in italian agriturismo). People who stay here at Tenuta Montelaura, for us aren't clients but guests. Often we sit at hte same table to have lunch or dinner with our own product of the farm. For this passion we also organize visits to other producters of excellent quality. I am sommelier and one of the 10 wine-tester for Slow Wine (the wine guide of Slow Food) for Campania and Basilicata regions. Therefore i know very well all the little wineries of excellence in the area and often i lead groups and our guests to visit these wineries. Also my wife Flavia, an expert of traditional cousine, organize cooking class for the guests. We are very glad of our work and hope always meet new people. We have a son Luigi 24 years old, and a daughter Veronica 27 years old. Luigi already is a sommelier and works with us in welcoming of our guests, Veronica just graduated in law.
We are in the middle of Irpinia, that is the province of Avellino, in Campania Region. Our area is famous for the wine, for hezelnuts and cestnuts. The inhabitants of this place mostly live of agriculture and enogastronomic tourism. It is comfortable to have our farm as base to visit the most famoum places in the world such as Pompei (at 30 minutes), Ercolano (at 35 minutes), Neaples (at 35 minutes), Amalfi Coast (at 20 minutes), Royal Palace of Caserta (at 40 minutes) not staying in the chaotic traffic of the big city, where the price of the rooms is expansive also. In addition to the zones of greatest historical interest, in this area is possible to visit some little wineries of excellence, to admire its vineyards and to taste its lovely wines. Other interest can be to visit the growning of cow and sheeps and to assist at the production of cheese. Here there is also another production of excellence : the truffle of Laceno. You can visit shops that expose a myriad of products based on truffles. This area is called " La verde Irpinia" ( the green Irpinia) for the green landscapes you can see wherever you turn your eyes.
