In a quiet valley surrounded by forested mountains lies a small village where people have lived for centuries. At the heart of this village stands a traditional farmhouse, built around 200 years ago, preserving the architectural style unique to this region. Nestled at the foot of the mountains, the house is located in a rich natural environment where wildlife thrives. In June, you can see fireflies glowing in the night and hear birds and deer calling from the nearby forest. The house has two bedrooms and a traditional tatami room, which can be used with futons for extra guests. The kitchen features a traditional irori (sunken hearth) and kamado (wood-fired stove), allowing you to cook using charcoal or firewood – a rare experience. At the same time, it’s equipped with modern amenities such as a gas stove, microwave, and Wi-Fi for your comfort. The bath is a classic Japanese iron tub, heated with firewood, offering a unique and relaxing experience. There’s also gas hot water available for the shower and bath. We hope you will enjoy not only the peaceful nature but also the chance to experience the traditional Japanese way of life.
While enjoying the changing seasons and weather, I often capture the moments with my phone. The fresh, seasonal flavors of the harvest are a joy to savor, and the sound of chopping wood for firewood is a satisfying one. I hope to visit farms in neighboring countries, document my experiences, and eventually compile them into a collection some years down the line. I’ve also decided to restart practicing the guitar. The work we do at the accommodation is intertwined with our daily lives—it’s not just a job, it’s a way of life.
This is a region surrounded by mountain trees, with scattered rice fields, farmland, and villages, all interwoven by flowing rivers. In winter, snowflakes dance through the air, blanketing the landscape, and you can enjoy the warmth of the fire while embracing the cold. In summer, the season begins with fireflies, followed by fresh summer vegetables, river play, and forest exploration. The sea is just an hour and a half away by car. Spring brings the blooming of cherry blossoms, the song of the warblers, and the joy of eating yomogi (mugwort) rice cakes, reminding us of the arrival of the season. It’s also the start of the farming season. In May, the fresh green leaves make the weather comfortably pleasant. Autumn, especially in October, brings mild temperatures, making it a perfect time for enjoying the delicious new rice harvest. With few cars on the road, it’s a great opportunity to explore the landscape at your own pace. We also recommend renting a car for scenic drives through the area.
