About Kominka Red Jasper Kominka Red Jasper is a private traditional Japanese house located in Akadama, a small village on the southern side of Sado Island. This spacious house, over 360㎡ in size, has been standing here for more than 100 years. We kept its original charm while renovating only the necessary parts. Right in front of the house, you’ll see the Sea of Japan. Behind it, beautiful mountains rise up, and on clear nights you can enjoy a sky full of stars. 🌅 The house has a warm, nostalgic “real Japanese style” atmosphere. The Akadama area is also known as the birthplace of Red Jasper, one of the world’s three great gemstones, making it a unique power spot. Fall asleep to the sound of waves crashing against the rocks, wake up to birds singing, and at night, be surrounded by countless stars. It’s a kind of warmth and peace you can’t find in the city.

Near the house, there is only a small local shop. We recommend eating in town or buying ingredients there to cook or enjoy a BBQ at the house. 🍳 🍖 You can have a BBQ in front of the house. BBQ set, paper plates, and cups are available to borrow. Please bring your own charcoal or firewood. 🪼 There is a small chill spot by the seaside in front of the house. Enjoy the sunrise in the morning and the starry sky at night. 🏝️ The nearest beach, Shirogahama Beach, is 22 minutes by car. It is a small beach with toilets, showers, and a hot spring nearby—perfect for relaxing with a few friends. 🐕 In the morning and evening, you might be lucky enough to meet Happy, a friendly Labrador from the neighborhood. 🎣 The sea here is calm, and there are many good fishing spots nearby.
