For the discerning traveler seeking to indulge in a hidden and personalized experience in Kyoto, we welcome you to Imakumano Terrace Inn. Situated above Sanjusangendo on the foothills of Higashiyama, Kyoto, the Machiya Boutique Hotel is located on a private lane, featuring 5 private and individual machiya townhouses. Our hotel offers guests the opportunity to experience a destination within a destination. Enjoy a beautifully restored historic properties that have been designed to showcase the old-world charms of traditional Japanese architecture and interiors with a perfect blend of modern designs, technology, curated art and antiques, creating the perfect cozy retreat. Each property is named after a great Kyoyaki Japanese Potter and Painter – we take our inspiration from the many kilns and pottery studios in the neighborhood. The traditional machiya layout covers two floors. The living and bathroom facilities are on the ground floor and the sleeping quarters are located on the second floor. Special features of each machiya include a full functioning kitchen with a dining/family room, a flat screen TV and private garden views. Our bathrooms feature a changing room area, a Japanese bathtub and separate shower facilities. Each property has a separate washing machine and dryer. Indulge in a variety of complimentary amenities and services are available during your stay. We are dedicated to achieving sustainable practices and goals through our eco housekeeping policies to clean and maintain the hotel while minimizing our environmental impact. We use eco-friendly cleaning products and hotel amenities, reducing water and energy consumption, and managing waste effectively. The machiya is located on a private lane with a front office where guests can requests light housekeeping during their stay and helpful concierge services including but not limited to calling for taxis, restaurant reservations and more. There are still many working kilns and pottery studios located in the neighborhood if you meander through the side streets. Our local high street has a variety of local grocery stores, supermarkets, bakeries, cafes and restaurants. There are many fine dining options including Japanese, Italian and French restaurants and wonderful options in the surrounding five star hotels. Surrounding Neighborhood Sanjusandendo - Kyoto's Sanjusangendo Temple is a National Treasure, filled with 1001 golden statues of Kannon. Kyoto National Museum - Kyoto National Museum is dedicated to exploring the history of Japan Chishakuin Temple -Chishaku-in Temple, the head temple of the Chisan School of Shingon Buddhism, which prospered as a temple of learning Within walking distance Kiyomizu Temple -The 1200-year-old Buddhist temple is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most famous temples in all of Japan. Tofukuji Temple -The temple is famous for its stone and moss gardens and has the largest Zen temple gate in Japan. Fushimi Inari -Fushimi Inari, officially known as Fushimi Inari Taisha, is a beautiful Shinto shrine in southern Kyoto, famous for its thousands of vermilion torii. Kamogawa River-A favorite local haunt for riverside walks, bike rides, picnics, and people-watching. Gion - one of Kyoto's historical entertainment districts. Pontocho -Pontocho Alley is home to numerous Japanese cuisine restaurants with little alleyways and riverside views.
