Property information

【ROOM】 KUROSHIO SOU encompasses 11 modern Japanese style guest rooms: 8 Garden View Standard Rooms and 3 Corner Junior Suite Rooms with semi-open-air bath. All rooms have different touch to its texture, but include traditional Japanese architectural features such as “tatami” -rush grass mat floors, natural soil walls, and bamboo ornaments. The bath tubs are “Shigaraki yaki” -a traditional ceramics craft in Japan. The elegant simplicity and cultural heritage immediately provides serenity and sense of belonging. 【CUISINE】 Our pursuit for authentic Japanese cuisine with Chef Hayashi, the supervisor chef at KUROSHIO SOU and the owner chef of Tenoshima -a Michelin star modern Japanese restaurant- roots in our philosophy of inheriting traditions of local cuisine and translating it in modern style. To use as much local and fresh ingredients as possible, from farm to table, we tightly communicate with farmers and fishermen. Gently nourish yourself with carefully selected fresh harvests and enjoy the encounter of Wakayama’s rich terroir. 【CONCEPT】 KUROSHIO SOU is a luxury hotel located in Shirahama, Wakayama. It is inspired by Kenko Yoshida’s, “Essays in Idleness,” one of a classic Japanese literature celebrating the beauty and the impermanence of everyday life. The concept sheds a light on Wakayama’s traditional artifacts and local gastronomy culture, which have history of hundred years. Located close to Kumanokodo, an ancient pilgrimage trails, KUROSHIO SOU aspires to curate the beautiful culture of Wakayama and to inherit with our interpretation. We hope to deliver an authentic, inspirational, and mindful time. 【Essays in Idleness】 Are we to look at cherry blossoms only in full bloom, the moon only when it is cloudless? To long for the moon while looking on the rain, to lower the blinds and be unaware of the passing of the spring - these are even more deeply moving. Branches about to blossom or gardens strewn with faded flowers are worthier of our admiration.

Neighbourhood information

【Shirahama hot spring】 Shirahama hot spring is known as one of the “Three Ancient Springs” of Japan. It dates back to Prince Arima’s visit to Shirahama in 657 for hot spring therapy, noted in “Chronicles of Japan,” the second oldest work of Japanese history. 【KUMANO KODO】 The routes are Nakahechi, Ohechi, Iseji, Kohechi & Omine Okugake routes. The hiking trails have been in use for over 1,000 years and are designated as UNESCO World Heritage. Hongu Taisha:1h15min by car
