MAYUDAMA HOUSE is a renovated old-Japanese art house with 140 years of history. Very popular with Nakanojo Biennale tourists! Built in the late Edo period, when the Shogunate was reigning, this house was used as a silk mill in the 19th century. Surrounded by lush nature, the house nests in a region with deep forests and hot springs. One of the nearby hot springs is Kusatsu which is one of the most famous in Japan, where the Shogun came to rest, and became a model for the ghibli film “Spirited Away”. YOUKOSO to MAYUDAMA HOUSE! 【1F】 On the first floor, you can see the original structures of the house. The fireplace (IRORI) was the center of life in the old days and you can still use it for cooking. We recommend grilling fish over the fire or cooking a Japanese hot pot in this fireplace as it is the classic dish to cook in an Irori. 【2F】 On the second floor, the South side is all renovated to have a wide view of the mountains. Sit back and relax on the couch, or enjoy a movie with our projector. 【Facilities】 On the first floor, there are 3 Tatami rooms for your living space, fireplace, kitchen, restroom, and bath. The second floor is an open space for your relaxation. There are projector and audio sets. No worries about the toilet! We have a modern western style heated toilet in the first floor. We have dishes, cookware, seasoning and other cooking essentials, all free to use. We also have BBQ sets. NOTE: We do not serve food for our guests. If you are not planning to go out for dinner, we recommend you to prepare ingredients at the grocery store before the stay.

The surrounding of the MAYUDAMA house is the village, where nice and old Japanese houses and the beautiful wild nature remains. Access Informations 3 minutes drive to Seven-Eleven 3 minutes drive to local store 15 minutes drive to large super market 3 minutes drive to home center 5 minutes drive to post office 15 minutes drive to hospital 3 minutes drive to the nearest restaurants. ※There are some restaurants serving after 10 P.M. Not only you relax with our Onsen, but you could easily find activities and places for your kids to have some fun. You can also access the Tsumagoi Kogen and Karuizawa (Japanese bivery hills). MAP (URL HIDDEN) Be sure to come by car There are parking space available in front of the MAYUDAMA house. Maximum capacity is around 3-4 cars. In case your planning to arrive us with more than 4 cars, Please contact us before. A journey to landscape in the original state in Japan. At the back of the house, wild vegetables can be taken and it can be eaten as tempura as it is. While enjoying nature, you ought to forget the daily crowds and enjoy a relaxing time.
