Welcome to Yue. Yue is a small guest house that receives only one group of guests at a time. We now provide total non-face-to-face service. We truly regret not being able to see you in person during your stay. We will do our best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Yue located in a quiet residential neighborhood in Tokushima. I rent the entire second- story house to only one group at a time, assuring a private, relaxing, and comfortable stay. All rooms reflect the Showa era décor, and the two neighboring Tatami rooms (straw mats on the floors) open to a lovely Tsubo-niwa (courtyard). I was inspired to open the guesthouse because of the kindness and hospitality I received when my husband and I lived in Taiwan. I was 45 years old, and it was the first time I had lived in a foreign country. Despite taking classes to learn Chinese, I could not pick up the language. I cried in frustration but with the help of my Taiwanese friends and fellow students, I realized that language didn’t have to be a barrier to enjoying a foreign experience. There are many ways people can connect without words. After leaving Taiwan, I visited my daughter who was attending college in New York. Instead of staying in an expensive hotel, my daughter suggested that I rent an apartment through Airbnb. For 10 days I lived like a New Yorker. I shopped in neighborhood grocery stores, prepared dinners for my daughter, and took short weekend trips to explore areas outside of the city. I didn’t feel like a tourist; I felt like a New Yorker. That is when I began thinking about starting a guesthouse to give visitors the experience of living in my hometown as we had in New York. With the encouragement of my husband and daughter, I renovated the house where my in-laws had had once lived. My goal was to create a cozy guesthouse that would feel like visitors home away from home. As I was working on the renovations, I heard my late mother-in-law’s voice saying, “Keep going. I want you to share the house I loved with others.” We welcomed our first guests in 2014.We do everything to ensure quality for our guests our guests happiness and comfort and to introduce them to our town, its culture, and its surroundings.We look forward to welcoming you to Yue.
