A Private Villa -Best Location for Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes- Villa KUMANO is a charming traditional Japanese house, so you can see what a traditional Japanese family lifestyle looks like! It is in the best location for Kumano Kodo pilgrims, in the heart of Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes. You can walk to Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine in only a few minutes. It is the closest villa to Oyunohara where Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine was originally located. We sincerely welcome you to stay with us and wish you will have a wonderful experience in the Kumano region and in Japan. Concepts - Private Stay with a Stunning View Villa KUMANO welcomes only one group per day, and it is the closest accommodation to the original location of Kumano Hongu Taisha, called Oyunohara. From the terrace, you can see the beautiful Kii Mountain Range, the view of the green, rice fields, and the world largest Torii gate by Oyunohara. -Co-Creation of Values with Local Businesses Villa KUMANO offers meals in collaboration with local businesses. For dinner, partake of a course menu with seasonal ingredients at a sushi restaurant. And for breakfast, specialty coffee from a cafe. Also, housekeeping and maintainance are done carefully by local people. Through managing Villa KUMANO, we hope to contribute to sustaining the local resources. -Best Location for Rest Days to Explore Kumano Villa KUMANO is in the heart of Kumano Kodo Pilgrimate Routes, so it is the best place to stay and enjoy in Kumano. AMY After studying in Australia and the United States, she came back to Japan in 2014 and started her new career in Osaka. She has been working with local businesses in Kumano to promote and help foreign tourists since 2017. She loves to travel for gastronomy all over the world! Her 'must-eat' recommendation in Kumano is Kumano Beef!! TOMO He majored in Tourism Studies at university and first visited Kumano as part of his coursework in 2011. He was captivated by the region's charm and the warmth of the people, leading him to make regular visits and assist in the promotion of tourism. While he currently leads a life based in Osaka, aspires to one day relocate to Kumano!
The Heart of KUMANO All of the pilgrimage routes gravitate to Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine, one of the three grand shrines of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage. Villa KUMANO is lacated very close to Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine, very convenient for pilgrims. Rural, but Still Relatively Convenient Kumano Hongu Heritage Center, a café, and a couple of souvenir shops with local goods are within walking distance. A post office with an ATM, a bank that can exchange some international currency, and a hardware store are located nearby. There are also a handful of restaurants in a neighborhood. Unique ONSEN You can access unique hot springs within approximately 15 minutes by bus from Villa KUMANO. Yunomine Onsen was discovered about 1,800 years ago, and pilgrims performed hot water purification rituals in these piping-hot mineral waters after their long journey in preparation to worship at Kumano Hongu Taisha. Kawayu Onsen is a geological thermal wonder located on the river. Hot spring water bubbles to the surface of the crystal clear river. Miya Sushi (Sushi Restaurant) - 2 minutes away on foot Sabo Sei (Cafe) - 1 minute away on foot Nakaoka Liquor Store - 2 minutes away on foot Post Office & ATM - 2 minutes away on foot Hachiya (Grocery store) - 3 minutes away on foot Hongu Gyoseikyoku Mae (Closest Bus Stop) - 2 minutes away on foot
