The machiya was spacious and comfortable and made us feel right at home. All facilities were easy to use and clean. Housekeeping made sure that we had fresh towels every day, which was especially useful in the Kyoto heat. The house is tucked away...

We loved the villa for its traditional feel. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They replaced our towels and gave us bottled water every day. It was close to a 7/11 shop and Lawsons. We had an amazing meal at Yokatto.

The room — which is actually a house — had two bedrooms and two living rooms. It also had a washing machine and dryer. The reception is located in the last of the houses, and the staff were very friendly and helped us with everything we needed. We...

The most gorgeous little traditional home for our group. This accommodation was a highlight of our trip. Be mindful that it is quite far from the closest station, and will take around 40 minutes to walk into the centre of town. Floor sleeping...

Company information

A Journey into the Depth and Tradition of Kyoto We have transformed a traditional Kyomachiya—a wooden townhouse built in the Meiji era—into a unique lodging experience. When we first began this endeavor, few people knew that these historic homes could be revitalized as accommodations, and the journey was filled with many challenges. That is why it brings us such great joy to now welcome guests from all across Japan and around the world. Through this work, we have come to deeply appreciate the importance of preserving Kyoto’s architectural heritage for future generations. Our concept is “living like a local,” offering a space where guests can feel at ease, as if returning to a familiar countryside home. Each time we hear guests say, “It felt just like coming back to the countryside,” we feel a deep sense of fulfillment in what we have aimed to offer. Our team is made up of individuals with diverse professional backgrounds, and their wide-ranging experience allows for creativity, flexibility, and a personalized approach to hospitality. With a shared passion for both innovation and preservation, we are committed to providing memorable stays while protecting the timeless spirit of Kyoto’s Machiya.

Property information

The amenities (such as a washing machine, tableware, etc.) vary depending on the room type. Please make sure to check carefully. This accommodation is a beautifully renovated Kyomachiya townhouse originally built in the Meiji era. While the building retains its traditional charm and architectural character, it has been thoughtfully updated with modern amenities such as air conditioning and a new water heating system. Guests can enjoy the nostalgic atmosphere of old Kyoto with the comfort of contemporary living.

Neighbourhood information

Our property stands on a site that once housed the imperial court over 1,200 years ago. While it is a little removed from Kyoto’s modern city center, the area offers a peaceful and quiet environment. It’s an ideal place to experience a different side of Kyoto—away from the typical tourist routes and closer to the city’s authentic charm.
