Where time slows—stay longer, live deeper in rural Kyoto. In Ayabe, northern Kyoto, our century-old farmhouse welcomes only one group per day for a peaceful, unhurried stay. While one night is welcome, two nights or more let you fully embrace the rhythms of countryside life. Join hands-on experiences like cooking Ichiju Issai meals—rice in a clay donabe, handmade miso soup, and seasonal vegetables—shared around the irori hearth. You can also try seasonal small-scale farming, relax on the deck overlooking rice fields, or arrange local guided tours (extra fee). More than just a place to sleep, we offer time “living together” with shared meals, conversation, and daily life. Vegan and vegetarian options available.
We are a bilingual couple (English, Japanese, Spanish) who left busy corporate life in Tokyo to embrace a slower satoyama lifestyle. We welcome guests as friends, sharing meals, stories, and hands-on experiences in our former village leader’s house.
Ayabe preserves the nostalgic scenery of Japan’s satoyama countryside. Enjoy rice fields, mountains, and farming activities that change with the seasons. Just 70 minutes by train from Kyoto city, it offers nature, culture, and peaceful rural life.
