A private rental combining the charm of traditional Japanese kominka with a dynamic open layout. The doma lounge, living room, and bedroom connect through an airy atrium, creating a spacious flow. Earth and wood fill the interior, with a striking exposed roof frame. While preserving the charm of a traditional Japanese kominka, the space has been renovated—especially the water facilities—for modern comfort. The bathroom has a shower only, with no bathtub, but we recommend visiting “Midori-yu,” a 140-year-old public bathhouse just a 5-minute walk away. A washing machine is available in the house, and there’s also a laundromat with dryers 3 minutes away on foot. Meals are not provided, but within a 10-minute walk you’ll find many restaurants, izakayas, grocery shops, and supermarkets. Some breakfast spots open as early as 7:00 AM. You can dine out or enjoy cooking with local ingredients—both are great options.
The town of Araicho, where the accommodation is located, has a rich history, with people having lived here for approximately 7,000 years since the Jomon period. You’ll find unique experiences woven into everyday life—reflecting the culture of a traditional fishing town—including local cuisine, narrow winding alleys, water activities on the lake and sea, a Japanese sweets shop with a 300-year history, and a public bathhouse that has been operating for 140 years. I’m personally very interested in how the lifestyle, history, and nature of this region connect with people’s sensibilities. While discovering the charm of the area myself, I hope to share it with my guests as well. Please come and visit!
