Bentota is a resort town on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka. The long Bentota Beach stretches north where it becomes a narrow strip of beach called Paradise Island, which runs parallel to Bentota Lagoon. Among the coral rich dive sites is Canoe Rock. From the Bentota River you can see the centuries-old Galapatha Temple complex with its large Buddha statue. To the southeast is the Lunuganga Garden estate and gardens designed by architect Geoffrey Bawa. To the northeast is the Brief Garden of his brother Bevis.
