Chacala is a beach located in a small bay on the Pacific coast of Mexico in the State of Nayarit. It is located about 90 kilometers (62 miles) north of Puerto Vallarta. The name means "where there are shrimp" in Nahuatl, and it is part of the coast known as the Riviera Nayarit. The population is made up of approximately 300 full-time residents, but can grow to over 1,000 during Mexico's most popular holiday periods, such as Semana Santa, (Easter Week), and Christmas. Chacala is known for its scenery and its quiet lifestyle. You will also find no less than 10 palapa-type restaurants in front of the beach, which makes it an excellent gastronomic option to taste the now traditional shaken fish so famous in the region.
