This is your chance to stay in The Meeuwen Manor (Meeuwen means gulls in Dutch), the most spectacular and best known house of the historic town Edam, overlooking the lake Markermeer and next to Fort Edam, a UNESCO protected fortress and nature reserve. The Meeuwen Manor, a 18th century house that was converted to its current unique state around 1910, is located only 22 kilometers from the centre of Amsterdam and offers a wonderful and stylish room with access to a great garden. The apartment has its own entrance at the front and consists of an alluring room with a mantelpiece and several original ornaments. It contains a comfortable kingsize double boxspring bed (210x180m). The bed, situated in a rear section, can be separated from the room by closing a thick curtain. There’s also a sofa bed in the room for two more people to sleep in. In the kitchen: fridge, stove, cookware, coffee machine, microwave and juicer. Bathroom with shower and separate toilet. The room has free WiFi and a TV including Netflix. I do not offer breakfast but at a walking distance of 250 meters there’s the most lovely breakfast spot you can imagine with a stunning view over the grand lake Markermeer.

My parents bought Meeuwen Manor in 1952 when it was completely in shambles. In thirty years my father restored it to its original splendor. I was born in the manor and grew up here, moved to Amsterdam in my early 20’s but have recently moved back to my birthplace when both my parents passed away. I'm an editor and a live music events producer and I produce and host a weekly live music show in Amsterdam called Club Dauphine. It has been running for eleven years every Friday night and about 1500 artists performed there. I can tell you a lot about the best places to go in Amsterdam and Edam for live music and other forms of art. I have a great passion for nature and will be happy to tell you about the many animals and plants that surround Meeuwen Manor or other places of interest in The Netherlands. Meeuwen Manor has a great beach at a 300 meter walk and is a superb spot for kitesurfing right in front of the door. It's located at the port of Edam, 1.5 kilometer from Edam centre, a 15 minute walk. Behind Meeuwen Manor lies the green oasis of Fort Edam, which also is a small nature reserve. Inside is a very nice museum and an impressive underground labyrinth of large dark corridors. Around the fort is a moat where many species of birds breed, for instance the kingfisher that you can see flying around all summer. Edam itself is one of the most well preserved 16th/17th century towns in Holland with grand houses that radiate it once was a prosperous township. The towns around Edam are interesting as well. Hoorn (20km) is beautiful, Volendam (3km) well known and I can especially recommend Marken, a small peninsula with labyrinths of beautiful old houses on poles. The famous Zaanse Schans with its mills is at a half hour drive. Amsterdam, where I spent most of my life, is off course the greatest city in the Netherlands.
