We didn't know what to expect at Arthur's Pass Lodge. However, our stay here turned out to be a highlight of our trip to the South Island. Helen is a wealth of information, a great host, excellent cook and baker and just a pleasure to be around....

Fantastic views over the valley. Charming host. We really enjoyed our stay here. You should know that the property is off grid therefore some services are limited.

I really enjoyed my stay - Helen was such a fantastic host. I really appreciated all her efforts in keeping the place off-grid, including the composting toilet (which btw did not smell at all)! The bed was extremely comfortable which is wonderful...

Beautiful views, terrific breakfast and close to hiking trails. Beds were comfy and the place was very eco-friendly. Helen, who lives there, is a friendly, knowledgeable host. Fine for a short stay.

Helen made the stay the best. She greeted us upon arrival. We included dinner in our stay which was delicious and helpful since there are not many food options around the area. She is very generous to offer her personal home to travelers. We were...

Absolutely amazing location and the view from the house was spectacular. I was so sad that we were able to stay there only for one night due to tight travel schedule.

Helen was an absolute delight. We spent much of our time chatting with her over coffee and her AMAZING view. She helped us choose our activities for the day and they did not disappoint. Breakfast was delicious.

Off-grid living with me in my home with mountain panorama. Facilities are shared, including bathroom and living space
I have been hosting since 2012. I previously worked at DOC's Arthur's Pass Visitor Centre. I keep spin wool, cycle (bikepack), packraft, read and am learning the cello. I have plenty of "grandies", and in a previous era, was a preschool teacher
