Welcome to Fantail Hill - experience the magic of the Coromandel! You will be joining us at our peaceful hillside hideaway close to the town of Thames. Your bedroom will have restful and expansive sea views and you will be surrounded by NZ native bush, with direct access to the magnificient Coromandel Forest Park. Enjoy a romantic evening in the Fantail Fernglade Spa, our hot tub under the stars. Soak your cares away under the vast canopy of the Milky Way. secluded under the tree ferns with soft solar lighting. A secret walkway leads from the garden to pristine waterfalls hidden in the bush and a refreshing swimming hole in summer, bush trails lead into town or up into the Forest Park. you will be surrounded by nature but only minutes away from shops, bars & cafes with a 5 minute drive or 15 minute walk into Thames. We love to pamper our guests with a generous breakfast prepared by European Chef, Siegfried, including handcrafted Sourdough bread, free range eggs, homemade muesli and jam. Organic and gluten free/dairy free produce is the speciality at Fantail Hill. and we seek to use local artisan and quality ingredients. We also have a selection of plant based milks available on request. We are close to Kauaeranga Valley, The Pinnacles, hiking tracks, Hauraki Rail Trail , and the gorgeous Thames Coast with its many beaches and bays. You will have your own private lounge and dining area with a fridge and a kitchenette to prepare hot drinks, light meals and snacks. There is a smart TV and we provide complimentary guest accounts for Netflix and Amazon Prime streaming. Welcome! we hope you enjoy your stay
Hello from Siegfried, Carmel and Mia the Swiss Shepherd dog. We are a three generation Kiwi/German family who have been holidaying in the Coromandel for decades and so delighted that we finally live here full time! we are passionate about our very special Coromandel region and its unspoilt beaches and forests and love to share our knowledge and enthusiasm with our guests, we can advise on the best hidden beaches and walking tracks in and around the Coromandel. We live on five acres of regenerating NZ Native bush, our water supply is natural rain water and we grow our own organic fruits and vegetables. Our long term project is to replace the exotic weed trees with sustainable native trees and the unique NZ Tree Fern, which give shelter and food to our wonderful NZ Native birds. Where possible we like to use Eco and Organic products, we try to avoid the use of single use plastics and aim to use recyclable items whenever we can. Its all about the people! we love meeting people from all cultures and all parts of the world and sharing a weekend or a few days with you is our privilege and pleasure.
Thames is a very friendly little town with many facilities We offer secure onsite parking away from public roads, but with the convenience of walking into town or taking a 5 minute drive, if you want to walk into town we can pick you up Every Saturday morning the town is bustling with a lively and colourful street market selling a variety of local artisan produce, plants, handcraft, jewellery and showcases a unique Coromandel creativity mixed with our local Steampunk culture (the annual Steampunk festival is held every November) Thames is the unofficial 'capital ' of the Coromandel Peninsula with its modern hospital, large supermarket , a range of 'speciality shops', heritage museums and an ever increasing choice of chic cafes and lively bars. Yet it's the way our town nestles in the 'arms' of the beautiful coromandel ranges and its rugged, unspoilt sea cost which creates the magic of Thames. Not far from the bustle of the Main Street are the many sheltered and hidden valleys clothed in native rainforest with pristine waterfalls and deep swimming holes, alive with indigenous birds and beckoning you to venture in further to explore the special beauty of our Coromandel Peninsula
