Casa do Silvério (Silvério’s house) is located in Tormes – literary name by which is nowadays known Quinta de Vila Nova (Vila Nova’s Farm), in Santa Cruz do Douro, Baião – whose magnificent landscape is described in the novel “The city and the mountains” by Eça de Queiroz. Standing by the 82-km mark on EN 108 (the road from Oporto to Régua), this country house is ideal for those wishing to come into contact with the world of the famous 19th century Portuguese writer. The region enjoys a rich cultural and ecological heritage, with its own distinctive cuisine, long-standing hunting traditions and well preserved landscapes, providing the perfect excuse for extensive and diversified journeys through space and time. The Eça de Queiroz Foundation organises visits to the Casa de Tormes, where some of the writer’s most significant possessions are on display to the public.
