Loretta was so welcoming and her place is calm, peaceful and beautiful. A real haven. It’s only a short walk to the lake which offers amazing views and a lovely swim and Loretta kindly gave fresh eggs and homemade jam to make my stay even better....

Our holiday cottage/“gäststuga“ is renovated and can be hired may till september . The 34 square meters consisting of kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom. The cottage is ideal for 2-4 people, there is space for tents also. Great for relaxing, enjoying, fishing, canoeing and much more. The guest house is located on „Skagern-runt“ (a 100 km trail) that was set up for biking, hiking and horseback riding. The cottage is situated directly between the two lakes Vänern and Vättern, also on a lake, the Skagern. The Skagern is one of the best fishing lakes in Sweden at all, and offers a range of fish species. It ist 300 meters away. The house has access to a small farm with garden, cats, rabbits, chickens and sheep. Horses can be put out on the pasture. Own adjoining forest, perfect for gathering mushrooms. 3 km to the lake Vänern. Towels and linens can be hired for a fee. Vegetables from our own harvest, homemade jam and, if necessary, self-killed meat or fresh fish from the Skagern can be bought from us. Pay this in Euros, Swedish Krona or via PayPal.
We, called Markus and Loretta, bought a yard in southern Värmland (Sweden, Kristinehamn) in september 2009 , because we have the plan to live here for the rest of our live. We are dreaming of leaving the stress of the city behind us. So we started our experiment: we focus on ecological feeding of animals, ecological vegetable and fruit cultivation, and living almost indepently from the supermarket:-). Food scandals should not interest us any longer, the supermarket will be replaced of the freezer and the earth cellar. What Grandma knew is now interesting again: How can I make food durable? How do I cook jam, what shall I do with all the vegetables when the harvest period has come? How actually tastes own apple juice? What eats a chicken and how many eggs lay it per year? What is „sik“? Why cats are too lazy to hunt mice? Are there any sheep that you must not shave? (Now, I can not answer all these questions – but I am sure that this will not last long.)Well, let’s be honest, you can’t learn all from one day to another, and give up everything what was before at once.
The nearest town is Gullspång, 10 km away. There is a pharmacy, gas station, small retailers, a cinema, a draisine-shop, a restaurant and a golf course. There ist a fair twice a week. Anyone who loves fish, travels to Otterbäcken. The nearest major cities are Kristinehamn and Mariestad. Both are located directly on Lake Vänern, about 40 km away. Nearby (40 km) are Karlskoga, Örebro, Kristinehamn, Mariestad, Karlstad and Hova (from 7 to 15 July 2012: the largest annual European jousting). In addition, about 5 km away, stands the old Church of Södra Råda. The 1310-built church was one of the oldest preserved medieval wooden churches in Sweden. As part of a project it ist going to be reconstructed after a fire in November 2011. Interesting!
