Company information

When you arrive as a guest, our entire Maasai community comes together to welcome you with a traditional Maasai welcome song and dance providing you with immediate immersion into our culture and community. We consider you part of our family and community while you are here, and our entire village of warm, welcoming, and hard working individuals will be happy to see you and speak to you while you are visiting.

Property information

Maasai Eco Boma consists of a collection of simple, cozy and traditionally crafted Maasai huts. Your stay will provide you with the opportunity to learn about and immerse yourself in Maasai culture. The Bomas are conveniently located in a wildlife corridor between Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks, and are 2.5-3 hour drive to Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro. The accommodation fee includes all meals and activities. The proceeds from your stay help support our community: 30% goes to the education program, 29% goes to the village, 23% goes toward activities and meals, and 18% is a government tax. The huts are private and each one is decorated according to the Maasai clan that they are named after. For the comfort of our guests, each hut offers electrical sockets, lights, comfortable beds with clean linens and mosquito nets, and en suite washroom & shower facilities with running water. Hot water can be made available on request. Strong wifi is available in the shared dining area where all meals are eaten. Meals consist of local dishes, including breads, meat, fruits and vegetables. There is also a firepit area where you can enjoy views of the stars after dinner. Multiple activities are available as well! Depending on the timing and duration of your stay, you can expect to participate in any of the following activities: Maasai village tour; visits to a Maasai traditional healer, midwife, and blacksmith; Maasai singing and dancing; milking cattle; beading with Maasai women; visiting huts of Maasai families; walking with Maasai warriors; fetching water and collecting firewood; and traditional storytelling around the campfire. Of course, the activities are all optional. Please let us know when you book if there is a particular activity that you’d like to participate in, and we would be happy to arrange it for you. If a particular room is unavailable, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you!

Neighbourhood information

The northern safari circuit in Tanzania is renowned for its awe-inspiring concentrations of wildlife, impressive world heritage sites, and stunning landscapes. However, an increasing number of tourists to Tanzania are interested in learning about and experiencing the unique cultures of local indigenous communities. We are excited to share that with you. Purpose-built in 2020 and operated by the Maasai people of Makuyuni, Maasai Eco Boma aims to increase visitor awareness, knowledge, understanding and appreciation of traditional Maasai culture. Situated in the beautiful wildlife corridor between Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks and a drive to Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area, your overnight cultural experience at Maasai Eco Boma is easily incorporated into any safari itinerary, and is a value-added opportunity that will enrich your time in Tanzania and indeed, your life! A large portion of the proceeds from your stay will go toward the Nashipay Pre & Primary Eco School, whose goal is to provide quality education to Maasai and non-Maasai children, the majority of whom live below the Maasai poverty line. A walking adventure in wild Maasailand provides a perspective on the tribal knowledge of the Maasai that spans over centuries. The perfect setting to appreciate nature, the slow pace of the walk combined with the interpretive skills of your Maasai guide will open your eyes to a fascinating world. Learn how the Maasai live in harmony alongside iconic wildlife, learn about medicinal plants, identify animal tracks, and watch for wildlife including zebra, giraffe, and impala. These walks bring you close to nature, leaving lasting impressions from an ancient culture, and an appreciation for a simpler, awe-inspiring way of life.
