Platt Johnson I am at your service for reservations and inquiries. I grew up in the Captain Morse House with my parents and brother. We had a wonderful childhood full of sailing, fishing, tennis and bike riding. Our family has been coming to the Vineyard since 1956 and can assist you in providing information for the first time or seasoned vineyard traveler. I ran a sports shop in Newport Rhode Island for 37 years and now live in Florida in the winter and the North West in the summer. I am a sailor, snowboarder, windsurfer and kitesurfer.

Property information

This is one of Martha's Vineyard's largest and most elegant vacation rental home. The Captain Morse House is close to Edgartown Massachusetts shopping, dining, golf, fishing beaches and harbor. The large front porches facing Edgartown harbor are an ideal place to spend the day. The over-sized back yard and garden can host weddings and events. Overview The Captain Morse House, at the corner of Morse and North Water streets, is one of Edgartown’s finest homes. This exquisitely detailed home is perfect for your dream vineyard vacation.The home features eleven bedrooms and seven baths on three floors, a formal living room and dining room, two family room/game rooms, and two new gourmet kitchens all tastefully decorated with period furnishings and artwork. The home has new central air-conditioning, heat and hot water systems and appliances.Outside on the North Water side facing the water are two spacious porches with partial water views of Edgartown Harbor. There is a large dock at the end of Morse Street that you can walk out on. Our backyard is one of the most spacious and safe in town and featur

Neighbourhood information

Edgartown is one of New England’s most elegant communities, Edgartown was Martha’s Vineyard’s first colonial settlement and it has been the county seat since 1642. North Water Street has a row of captains’ houses not equaled anywhere. Study the fanlights and widow’s walks by day and stroll down the streets after the lamps are lit. The stately white Greek Revival houses, of which ours is one, were built by the whaling captains have been carefully maintained. They make the town a museum-piece community, a seaport village preserved from the early 19th century. Main Street, three blocks away, is a picture book setting with its harbor and waterfront. The tall square-rigged ships that sailed all the world’s oceans have passed from the Edgartown scene, but the heritage of those vessels and their captains has continued. For the past hundred years, Edgartown has been one of the world’s great yachting centers. South Water Street is dominated by a huge pagoda tree brought from China as a seedling by Captain Thomas Milton in the early days of the last century.
