Lu and I (Larry) have done a fair amount of travel and we know that where we stay can make a big difference in how much we enjoy our time away from home. With that in mind, we've created this space where you can relax after a busy day or just stay in and take it easy in peaceful quiet surroundings.
We also own and operate Used Anew, a reclaimed materials business. We've deconstructed unwanted buildings and have saved material we use to produce flooring, accent wall and ceiling materials, custom furniture and decor. Examples of these products can be seen in our on-site Show Home & Shoppe, where you can purchase items or materials to take with you or have them shipped home. You'll also find unique antiques, collectibles and crafts sprinkles about the Show Home & Shoppe, all available for purchase.
Lu and I enjoy meeting our guests, and we're available if you need us, but we take our cue from you as to whether you want complete privacy or would like to visit with us about our region, our work, recommendations for things to do, or other topics.
We look forward to meeting you and sharing the beauty of beautiful Big Creek Valley.
We're in an active farming community where during certain times of the year you can witness the field work (planting and harvesting) in the surrounding fields.
Sunsets and sunrises are often overwhelmingly beautiful and on cloudless nights, you'll be amazed at all the stars visible in the sky with so little light pollution here in the country.
We're just a few miles from trail heads for the Elroy-Sparta or La Crosse River Bike Trails. (Bike rentals are available a few miles away at Speed's Bike Shop.)
Canoe and kayak rentals are available nearby too, if you'd like to paddle around Perch Lake or take a leisurely trip down the La Crosse River.
We're about 13 miles from Fort McCoy with numerous recreation types available there. Sparta features a variety of dining experiences, a unique space and bike museum and area history room, a golf course, and several nice parks with unique bridges built by an area volunteer group that call themselves "The Shovelmen".
Cashton, (a short drive South) is home to a large Amish community. Slow down for buggies and watch for signs by the side of the road offering baked goods, candies, maple syrup, fresh fruits and vegetables, and even harness repair and buggy making, if you have the need! Please respect their customs including "no photos", but do smile and wave.
A Mennonite owned grocery (Northwoods Country Market) in Sparta features bulk foods and an excellent meat and cheese counter.
In season, a Farmer's Market is a popular feature in Sparta Wednesday evenings and Saturdays. Also on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer, enjoy free "Concerts in the Park", featuring area music talents.
There's a lot to do and enjoy in the area, or feel free to hang out here and just relax in the peace and quiet of Big Creek Valley.
