Aloha! We moved here from Los Angeles in 2007. I will be catering to your vacation needs. My daughter Natasha and my son Kyle are sometimes around to help with local info to optimize your stay on the island. We enjoy meeting people from all over the world, learning other cultures, sharing the wonders of Hawaii and extending our warmest Filipino Hawaiian hospitality to all our wonderful guests. Property information

Our home is a historical Hawaiian plantation house located in the quaint town of Hilo Bay near the town center where the only shopping mall (the Prince Kuhio Mall) on the island. It has been lovingly restored to exude easy island living of old times, but with installed modern amenities, fast Wifi, Netflix, cable news on LCD TV's in every room which are studio-style and have access to a dining room and a kitchenette. Just FYI, we have cameras in common indoor areas and outdoor perimeters of the house. We live on-site in a separate apartment, so we are available for company, questions or emergencies. Couples, business people, researchers adventure seekers, solo females and budget travelers love our set-up.

Neighbourhood information

We are located in a quiet and safe family neighborhood. Feels like country, but in reality we are in convenient area of Hilo Bay Town near the cross streets of Volcano Highway 1 and Saddle Road Extension 2000, this is the quiet part of Hilo. The airport is 5 stoplights away from this intersection. A bus stop is just at end of our street and a mini mall is two blocks away. It's an easy 30 minute drive to both Volcano Park and Mauna Kea, our island's most popular tourist destinations. The closest beach is about a mile away. Our low traffic dead-end street turns into one car lane, so please drive slowly. See you soon!

This guesthouse is for travelers only. We require all guests to present a valid photo ID issued from a government authority and proof of onward travel (an itinerary that shows you have a flight departing the Big Island of Hawaii). Guest's identification must match the name(s) on the reservation.

Payments and deposit are made through a credit card. The property will contact you after you book to provide further instructions.

Proof of departure may be required upon check-in. SHAKA SHAK HOUSE RULES:

1. No shoes inside the building.

2. No smoking inside the house, on balconies, patios and carports.

3. No drugs are allowed to be stored or consumed here.

4. Quiet time is 22:00-07:00. During this time, conversations must be in whispers, televisions are turned off or way down, and please limit noisy activities like showering, cooking, washing dishes etc.

5. Check-out is 10:00. Late checkout must be arranged in advance and cannot be guaranteed. Speak with the manager if you need baggage storage after checkout time.

6. Remember you are sharing space -- if your actions offend or inconvenience our other guests, we will insist that you leave immediately.

7. No inside cooking of food emitting offensive odors, such as fish.

8. We reserve the right to relocate guests to more appropriate rooms if necessary.

Driving Directions:

From Kona via Saddle Road, it will be about 43 km from Mauna Kea Access Road to Komohana. Make a right turn on Komohana and then an immediate left turn at the first light, which is Puianako Street, then go about 3 km to Maikai. After, turn right on Kahaopea Street, Landmark is Sign Kahaopea Gardens. The 2nd house on the right is the house. It is a 2 story white house with brown trim and lots of flowers in front. Enter through the bamboo gate right next to the palm trees. Bright signs show where parking is. Parking on driveway is first come, first served basis. Overnight street parking is also allowed across the Living Waters Church, a block away from the guesthouse. Please follow the street signs."
