A cozy nest for two! Spend days skiing, hiking, or canoeing on the Androscoggin River, then return to our serene space for a hot shower and a drink on the porch. Ahhh, "Maine...the Way Life Should Be!" Our charming, art-filled, minimalist space has what you need to be comfortable, to prepare a simple meal, and unwind. We sit at the outdoor recreation epicenter of the Mahoosuc mountains. Or, if you prefer to sit on the back porch and read, we also have you covered. This is a private suite designed for comfort. The living area is one room, thoughtfully designed with a place to sleep, dine, work (if you MUST), read, and a wet bar with the appliances necessary to cook a simple meal. The private bathroom is modern and infused with natural elements. The space is cooled and heated with easy-to- operate air source heat pumps, and modern electric heat to boost warmth on the coldest days. The suite is private and has its own parking and entrance. Guest access is limited to the suite, back porch, and outdoor spaces. In the summer we're happy to share some tomatoes or herbs from our on-site garden. Other things to note Our suite is in an historic grange hall (that we are renovating) just outside of Bethel Maine. The suite is located at the back of the building away from Route 2. In addition, there are railroad tracks at the back boundary of the property and an occasional train passes by, typically after midnight. Neighbors on one side are friendly Canadians, the neighbors on the other side keep to themselves. If we happen to be on site at The Commons (the name for the property), we're happy to provide a tour of the historic building.
We live on the coast & in the Western Maine mountains in an off-grid, hand-built home. I'm a philanthropic advisor& former teacher. Cam studies climate science focused on the Arctic. We've traveled extensively and enjoyed amazing hospitality. We like solitude & are very independent.Tell us where the key, the coffeemaker & extra pillows are & we'll figure out the rest. We're outdoorsy. I try to create minimalist spaces filled with art and simple, quality comforts. We love hosting and when possible we like to meet our guests.
The Pleasant Valley Commons, where the suite is located, is about a 5 minute drive from the town of Bethel where services, restaurants, and amusements (e.g. bowling, movies…) are found. West Bethel is rural and on the east/west corridor between Maine and NH. Sunday River Resort (skiing and golfing) is 15 minutes away, and the White Mountain town of Gorham, NH is just 20 minutes on a scenic road. The West Bethel boat launch (for canoes and kayaks) on the Androscoggin River is a two minute drive. Some of our neighbors are seasonal and some have lived there for generations. Every morning our neighbor across the street raises the American and Marine Corp flags. Does that happen in your neighborhood? The pace is slow, the people are kind.
