Carolina Beach has more of a family party vibe along with expansive sandy beaches. Kure Beach is at the very southern tip of Pleasure Island, where the Cape Fear River meets the Atlantic Ocean. A slower, more quiet pace than Carolina Beach, it boasts the lovely wooded areas of Fort Fisher and is home to the North Carolina Aquarium. Oak Island marks the southernmost beach of North Carolina, a 12 mile island south of the Cape Fear River near Southport.
