Really fun and totally unique experience. The bungalow is totally charming and perfectly outfitted. Serene setting on a beautiful open meadow. Peter was there for my arrival and gave a thorough tour. Highly recommend, I’d definitely stay here...

I liked that it was quiet and remote but also wasn’t too far from town.

The instructions were very clear. The hosts were friendly and helpful, but not overbearing.

This cute seasonal country cottage has been one of the most popular listings in our area for years. This converted shed provides a semi-primative glamping experience. While there is NO SHOWER OR TUB, there is a bathroom across the tiny porch with a sink, towels, soap, water for washing your hands and brushing your teeth, and a composting toilet. The room has a full-size bed (sleeps 2 comfortably), high-speed wifi, a desk, bedside table, cupboards with basic utensils, electric tea pot, microwave, mini refrigerator, ceiling fan, window fan, extra bedding, potable water, coffee, tea, and simple snacks. The room is well lighted and ventilated with a nice view of the woods, and there is a small patio with table and chairs. Parking is just a few feet away and there are automatic lights all over the place (including in the bathroom). On the other side of our huge 1865 barn is a meadow, and the stars are magnificent! The ShackHilton is makes a great base camp for countless nearby recreational activities on our lakes and in our forest and mountains from May through October (we are closed for winter). Because of the lack of a shower, this listing is only suited to shorter stays (five days or less), although there is a beautiful clean lake just five minutes away that is guests often use to swim and clean up. The ShackHilton's patio, deck, and composting toilet room are private. It also has its own entrance with a key-code combination lock.
My husband, Peter, and I have been married 43 years and are now retired. We are avid outdoors people with lots of hiking, boating, fishing, skiing and technical climbing experience (Peter). We live in the farmhouse across the street and have been hosting guests at our property since 2018 and have hosted hundreds of happy visitors!
We live on a country road with no visible neighbors and it is quiet and peaceful (and there is lots of wildlife). We are three miles from the quaint village of Bridgton, which has all the usual amenities including restaurants, shops, and a lovely theater. We are in the lakes region so there is water everywhere! We are a short drive to the White Mountains with hundreds of miles of hiking and other recreational options. There is no regular public transportation although guests may be able to Uber.
