Jakes with his wild mushroom pickings
Old world, farm-style, self-sufficient, off the grid, quiet and isolated simple living. Nestled between the Tsitsikamma mountains, with mountain walks, fynbos and commercial apple orchards all around, we are only 3 km from the village – Twee Riviere, situated in the Langkloof. We milk our own cows – by hand – make our own cheese, grow our own veggies and fruit, make butter, bread, country wine, eggs etc. Our place is simple and not manicured; we are off the grid – running on solar panels, cooking on a gas stove, gas geyser, and refrigeration, also gas. Bethany Farm functions on solar energy and makes use of LED lights and kerosene lamps. For those who are not familiar with solar energy, this means that 220 V power is available in the day, when the sun is shining in the sky. We offer two separate cottages on the farm, each with unique and simple features Vetiver Cottage: A simple and comfortable sandstone cottage, where you can enjoy the quiet and wake up to the sounds of birds and cocks crowing. For those who love simplicity, unfettered nature, plants and soil, permaculture and trees, I think you will enjoy your stay with us. Robin's Nest: A small two story cottage, with a lovely upstairs bedroom overlooking a valley of apple orchards and mountains. Downstairs is a small open plan room, with the kitchen is equipped with a simple stovetop, a fridge as well as tea- and coffee-making facilities. A bathroom is attached with a toilet and walk in shower, with water heated by a gas geyser. Private, outdoor braai/fireplace and stoep perfect for early morning coffee surrounded by birds and wild nature. Please enquire if you have any questions about the different options.
I am a Christian. I love family, nature, sustainable farming, cooking and food processing, good music, play classical guitar and sing, permaculture, soil biology. I enjoy people, and I like to hear their stories.
We are situated in a fruit producing area - mainly apple, pear and plum trees. Still a little bit 'old world', with Cape fynbos and proteas and sugarbirds covering the mountain sides. Very quiet, with stunning views and brilliant night skies. This is a lovely place to go for bicycle rides, walks and hikes in almost any direction. The Langkloof is unspoiled and not over commercialized. We are about an hour away from Jeffrey's Bay, with the Garden Route just over the mountain. We have our own stunning bakery/restaurant just down the road - the Belfry kitchen.
