Company information

A boutique style approach to detail for families, fishermen and friends, is what we offer here at “The Breede”. It is a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience for the whole family. We house holiday packages, tailor-made to your needs. Here we believe in going back to basics and connecting with nature. We are a versatile business where we cater to all, from an intimate family getaway to year-end functions, weddings and more. Malagas is 280 km from Cape Town (approx. 2.5 hours’ drive). Malagas is a settlement on the Western bank of the Breede River in the Overberg District of the Western Cape, approximately 30 kilometres south-east of Swellendam, accessible along a gravel road that turns off the N2 National road just west of Swellendam, which eventually leads to the mouth of the Breede River at Cape Infanta. Access is also possible via Bredasdorp. The name Malagas is probably an adaptation of the Portuguse mangas de velludo, “velvet sleeves”, referring to the cape gannet with its black-tipped wings. Malagas is described as a place of exceptional beauty and peacefulness and the southern bank of the River is lined with idyllic homes, framed. Love, Life, Food. “The Breede Team"

Neighbourhood information

Cape Agulhas : Africas southern most point where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. The Wreck of Kadi : One of the more famous steamers was the 158 ton Kadie. Malgas became a bustling social and business centre due to the inland harbour and the pontoon ferry service. Whaling / Infanta : Hosts an annual whaling spectacular the likes of which can’t be witnessed anywhere else in the world. De Hoop Nature Reserve : Is 42 km away and is open from sunrise to sunset. Covered in limestone fynbos, the De Hoop coast is a marine reserve which extends 3 kilometres out to sea. Along the coast you will see the finest examples of intertidal ecosystems in the Cape. Snorkelling in large clear pools is one of the best ways to appreciate this inter tidal world. De Hoop has several mountain bike trails, and there is also the 5 day whale trail. There are several walking trails which offer glimpses of rare plants and birds. The walks range from 6km to 15 km and can be up the mountains of the Potberg or on a coastal trail along the sea shore. The Cape Vulture Colony in De Hoop is the only remaining breeding colony in the winter rainfall region.
