Absolutely stunning, the website doesn’t do justice to the experience of the entire farm. If you looking for a place to switch off it’s the perfect getaway.

The reviews for this chalet, Rietdakkies, were misleading. The place was fully equipped and clean. The location is ideal and the farm's wine tasting and pizzas about 500m away are a highlight. The fireplace inside was very welcome. It rained the...

Company information

In addition to producing award-winning wine, Montpellier serves as a tranquil getaway and stunning event venue. Its charming hillside chapel, Cape Dutch homestead, reception facilities and expansive grounds offer breath-taking views of the magnificent surrounding mountains and provide the perfect setting for any memorable occasion. Montpellier offers a world of historical and natural beauty all in one place for a relaxing food and wine daytrip, a weekend getaway with family and friends, or the wedding of your dreams.

Property information

Montpellier provides a romantic setting for a country getaway, with a charming hillside chapel, picturesque wedding venue and old Cape-style guest house. Founded in 1714, this historical Boland Farm is embraced by the Montténére, "the mountains of fear". Montpellier offers a variety of temptations for the palate and senses, in true Tulbagh style. Accommodation ranges from luxurious bed and breakfast options in the Cape Dutch Manor House, to warm, rustic self-catering cottages nestled around the farm, surrounded by vineyards and breathtaking mountain views. All accommodation includes fresh bedding, towels, coffee and tea. Self-catering units are fitted with a refrigerator, microwave, kettle, toaster and basic cutlery and crockery. Montpellier prides itself on offering delectable wine tastings at our Glasshouse or outside in our manicured garden. Join us for a leisurely experience of our exceptional MCC, white and red wines. Nguni's graze peacefully near the manor house and there is a spacious swimming pool where manor house and stable rooms guests can cool off. Guests can book horse riding sessions nearby, or walk, run or cycle through the vineyards and into the village of Tulbagh.

Neighbourhood information

Tulbagh's wine route boasts several gracious family-owned estates, dating back many generations to the commencement of winemaking in the Cape, that are institutions in the wine industry. These are interspersed with state-of-the-art contemporary cellars as well as a handful of boutique wineries. The accolades earned by winemakers in the valley bear testimony to Tulbagh's fine terroir and superior viticulture. Tulbagh also hosts various events every year. In June, the village is festooned with holly, bells, lights and tinsel as it invites visitors to celebrate Christmas in Winter; in September the Tulbagh Spring Arts Festival showcases a variety of visual and performing arts; and the valley proudly displays two of its most prized assets during the annual Tulbagh Horse & Wildflower Show. Activities such as bird watching, horse riding, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, wild flowers and scenic drives are only a few of the pleasures awaiting nature lovers. In the surrounding area you can also experience a zip slide adventure in Ceres. Equally enticing alternatives are browsing art & craft galleries & exploring the museums.
