The property was nice and clean, located about 1 hour outside of Mbombela, it’s surrounded by lush greenery. The dirt road leading to the property wasn’t so bad, we were able to drive on it comfortably with a sedan.

The hosts are lovely, and the area is great. There's a good restaurant called the wild fig tree just 15 mins from there in sabie. There's a stunning place to sit and drink wine in the guest room or outside. The breakfast is very good too.

Company information

Originally from England, we came to South Africa for a two year adventure in 1974 and never went back! Over the years we have travelled extensively throughout southern Africa and have lived in Johannesburg, Durban and now Sabie since 2016. We are wildlife fanatics and have been to Kruger Park more times than we can remember, staying at every camp. Janet has done eight Wilderness Walking Trails in the Kruger and loves to share those experiences with our guests. We are always happy to offer advice and tips about Kruger and the Panorama Route area we know so well. We are also both keen birders and actively encourage our nearly 100 species of garden birds with feeders and plantings. Porcupine Ridge is also our home and we extend a friendly welcome to all our guests and encourage you to kick back, relax and enjoy our guest house and the gorgeous natural surroundings of our lovely area.

Property information

Porcupine Ridge was the first 4 star guest house in Sabie and we have proudly maintained that standard since 2008. We are situated 5 km from the town, 1km down a private lane off the main Sabie/Hazyview road, ensuring absolute peace, quiet and privacy for our guests. The glorious mountain views and 2 acre garden surround you with nature. The original part of our home is a historic gold miner's cottage, which has been extensively extended and re-modelled to create a stylish, modern guest house, whilst keeping a cosy, homely atmosphere. We pride ourselves on our high standard of housekeeping, our top quality room facilities and our superb breakfasts. Porcupine Ridge was created as the kind of guest house we like to stay in ourselves and we hope you will love it too!

Neighbourhood information

The Panorama Route is one of South Africa's most spectacular natural attractions but is sadly not known outside South Africa as well as it should be. Sabie is the perfect stopover point between Johannesburg airport and Kruger Park and a minimum stay of two nights is essential to experience the wonderful highlights of the Panorama Route before moving on. The Blyde River Canyon, Bourke's Luck Potholes, God's Window, Pilgrim's Rest and a host of spectacular waterfalls are the main features but Sabie is also home to adventure activities, hiking routes, trout fishing, mountain biking and more. The town has all basic amenities plus a wide choice of restaurants but our guests favourite is always The Wild Fig Tree restaurant for their exotic game dishes, think Crocodile, warthog, springbok & local trout. Sabie is a popular holiday destination for many South Africans so make sure you stay awhile and experience our friendly area yourself!
