4x4 or HIGH CLEARANCE VEHICLE IS REQUIRED TO REACH THESE UNITS. Located within the Karkloof Nature Reserve, Rockwood Karkloof Forest Lodge & Rockwood Mountain Cabin are three-bedroomed self-catering units nestled in and around indigenous African forest offering a tranquil and secluded escape from city life. The units are located 5 km from one another. Crisp linen and toiletries are provided for your comfort. Mountain Lodge is solar-powered. Both units have spectacular views and outdoor dining areas equipped with Big Green Eggs. Forest Lodge has a children's playground. The units are all perfectly suited for relaxing and leisurely getaways for families, friends and couples. Units are close to fresh water, rivers, dams, waterfalls, grasslands, indigenous forest and the famous hiking, walking and mountain bike trails of the Karkloof. Guests enjoy exclusive access to the Karkloof Nature Reserve for hiking, mountain biking, trail running, dam swimming, fishing and the eco-antidote to tech-boom burnout of forest bathing. Situated in the Kwazulu Natal Midlands on the famous Midlands Meander, just 20 kilometres from Howick, the property is easily accessed from the N3 freeway between Durban and Johannesburg. An hour and a half drive from Durban, a five-hour drive (door to door) from Johannesburg and 40 minutes from Pietermaritzburg.

The fine print
Please note, Rockwood Forest Lodge and Mountain Cabin are reachable by rough terrain and require 4x4 or high-clearance vehicles for access. The units are located 5 km from one another in different areas of the Reserve. We ask guests to please check-in at the Rockwood Office Reception before proceeding to either unit. Guests are further requested to please contact the Rockwood Office when they leave the town of Howick to confirm check-in. Guests are advised to follow the directions provided by the property as Google directions to Mountain Lodge are not always possible.
Guests are required to show a photo identification and credit card upon check-in. Please note that all Special Requests are subject to availability and additional charges may apply.
Please inform Rockwood Karkloof Forest Lodge & Mountain Cabin in advance of your expected arrival time. You can use the Special Requests box when booking, or contact the property directly with the contact details provided in your confirmation.
In the event of an early departure, the property will charge you the full amount for your stay.
This property is accessible via an unpaved road, which may be unsuitable for some vehicles.
A damage deposit of ZAR 5,000 is required. The property charges this days before arrival. This will be collected by credit card. You should be reimbursed within 7 days of check-out. Your deposit will be refunded in full via credit card, subject to an inspection of the property.
