Barry's reminds me of a little house (or apartments) trapped in time in the midwest USA (or anywhere) during the 1950's. The place is very homey. It is so relaxing and the best thing about Barry's is that it accepts Bitcoin Lightning in a town...

The room was very clean with a "fresh" feeling and décor. The host and staff were friendly and helpful and they are clearly environmentally conscientious in their approach. We couldn't want more for the price we paid.

People enthuse regarding Stillbaai. I prefer Witsand, it's less developed and has a superb beach in a great setting. Poshpackers exceeded my expectations. The room was large and comfortable and Helen was particularly welcoming and helpful in all...

The accommodation was amazing, great facilities and the hosts were very kind and caring. I booked the accommodation for my daughter and she loved it, she felt safe and had a wonderful stay. Thank you for your kindness and care.

Company information

We arrived in Witsand in March 2016 whilst on holiday from Zimbabwe, we stayed over for one night on our way to Cape Town , and just loved this special village so much that we ended up buying the Barry's Holiday Accommodation business and have been living in Witsand now since October 2016 - we hope you will enjoy your time in Witsand as much. Owen grew up in Zimbabwe, and farmed citrus, cattle and maize there, until we moved to Witsand. Owen has four children, some in SA and some in Zimbabwe and three grandchildren. He is enjoying his career change from farming to tourism! and aswell as being a keen cyclist - he is also learnt to kite surf at the grand old age of 60!! Owen married Helen in 2012. She was born in the UK and after studying for a BSc and MSc at the Royal Agricultural University in the UK,she spent many years travelling the globe, working in tourism /farming or volunteering to fund these travels. We both enjoy to travel and meeting new people - and look forward to welcoming you to Witsand.

You can just laze in a hammock in the garden if you want, or learn to kite surf. There is whale watching between May and Sept and kite surfing between Dec-April - so book today!! We also have other self catering houses available in the village if you are planning a staying a few days or more and want a river/ocean view. Just let us know what you are looking for and we will do our best to select the best option for you, so that your trip to Witsand will be relaxing and enjoyable. All our rooms have complimentary wifi/tea/coffee and map of the village to help find the local beauty spots, restaurants and shops etc. There is a large lawn to dry kite surf kit and a lock up.

Neighbourhood information

Witsand is a very small, safe, beautiful and friendly village, located on the Indian Ocean and at the mouth of the Breede River - it has whales visiting to have calves during June- end of September. Its also a new destination for kite surfing/boarding as the lagoon offers a safe place. during December to May you will find many international kite surfers following the wind to Witsand. There are also some scenic river walks and beach walks for those that like to hike in nature and watch birds, picnic al fresco and dip in the waters to cool off. Traditionally, Witsand was well known for its fishing, even now many fisherman spend time here fishing for Kob up the river or deep sea fishing on the ocean. Its possible to arrange boat trips up the river, where there are three Bush Pubs along the other side of the river - serving cold beer and delicious pizza's. Witsand has 3 bars/restaurants, 3 small shops, a coffee shop in the old wool shed and an activity centre where one can hire SUB"s etc. Just 40 mins drive away is De Hoop Nature Reserve (WHS), Bontebok NP and Malgas, a small village which you can reach by loading your car on to the last remaining hand drawn car ferry in SA.
