After reading the rave reviews, I booked this stay months in advance to make sure we would not miss the opportunity to meet Ken and Yuki and to stay at their guesthouse boasting modern facilities and balancing comfort and sleek design with traditional Japanese architecture and minimalistic and elegant interior design. At the end of a long day hiking, we were greeted with a big smile as if we'd come home to our family, a feeling that is both priceless and heatwarming. Ken's kind and welcoming nature is only rivalled by Yuki's and her sense of humor. Dinner was as delicious as our breakfast (all guests shamelessly went for seconds and some even thirds taking the lead for a brave lady I shall not name), enjoyed to the sound of Jazz standards in a communal spirit shared with the other guests, all of whom polite and considerate, as if handpicked by the hosts or perhaps instinctively mirroring their behavior. Guests do not have to wait to take a shower because there are three showers, one of which with an additional bathtub, for four rooms. Everything is impeccably clean and organized, making you feel restful instantly. So, do not hesitate to book this guesthouse as you make your way along the Old Nakasendo Road or just take a taxi to Magome and walk a few hundred meters to take photos for your Insta. Whether you fit the former or latter category, you will be treated as a family member by the kindest people we've met during our 3-week stay in Japan. I've already recommended this guesthouse to everyone I know who is planning to visiting Japan.

The spacious apartment features 1 bedroom, a flat-screen TV with streaming services, a fully equipped kitchen with a microwave and a toaster, a washing machine, and 1 bathroom with a bidet. For added convenience, the property can provide towels and linens for a supplement. For added privacy, the accommodation features a private entrance. Lovely apartment in a great location very close to the main shopping and sightseeing areas. The apartment is huge and well stocked with a variety of kitchen appliances so it's possible to cook meals. There's a laundry located off the kitchen and a bathroom with a generous amount of toiletry products located behind that. There's ample heating if needed. Everything was exceptionally clean, well organised and of good quality. There is one huge bedroom upstairs containing 5 beds and a partition blind you can lower if required. There is a toilet upstairs and one downstairs just as you enter the building. Access to the apartment is via a digital lock opened via a code which the host supplies before arrival. I'm usually reluctant to recommend apartments since people have different requirements, likes and dislikes but this place is really lovely and very reasonably priced. I would definitely stay here again if I ever returned to Takayama.

The 4-star ryokan features river views and is 47 km from Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village. The ryokan offers rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. From the cozy room and relaxing bath to the delicious meals and city tour, everything was exceptional. The family running the ryokan is incredibly attentive, taking care of every detail with warmth, we felt truly welcomed from start to finish.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The property offers free WiFi access in rooms and in public areas including the shared TV lounge and the terrace. staff was extremely pleasant. the place is amazingly decorated. They made special and great breakfast for my spouse who's gluten free.

Conveniently situated in the centre of Takayama, 玄Gen is a recently renovated holiday home, which provides free WiFi, a garden and free private parking for guests who drive. The property was built in 1984 and features air-conditioned accommodation with a terrace. The holiday home has a hot tub and full-day security. The house is fully equipped. We even used the washing machine. Thank you. The host took good care of everything and offer himself to take us to the train station.

The air-conditioned accommodation is 48 km from Gero Station. The property is non-smoking and is situated 500 metres from Fuji Folk Museum. We loved our stay. Excellent location close to station ;enough space for 5 people , stylish design Staff was excellent, very responsive and hospitable.

The owner, like the rest of the locals, were overwhelmingly kind. Kanoko also left us some deer jerky from their hunting, which was absolutely delicious.
